I test drove a new 1990 C2 and then a C4. I still remember the salesperson telling me to go faster around turns in the C4. We were in an office park where the streets were there but no buildings, and I was already going 90 mph around the turns. After having a 1984 Carrera, that new C4 scared me. It was like driving on rails and the car just kept pulling. I knew that would get me into trouble, so I decided to buy a Carrera 2 for the driving experience I was used to from earlier cars. Now, 28 years later, I wouldn't hesitate to buy either. Get the car in the best condition, and I wouldn't worry about added maintenance, weight, desirability. They're both outstanding cars.

I've never driven a 964 C2, but I have owned a 3.2 prior to the C4 so I can compare those and while I never drove the 3.2 under the rain (was a WTL Cab), I think the extra weight can be felt on the C4. Nonetheless, it doesn't make the C4 a bad car, I love driving it and I track it as often as I can, but as a more motosports oriented guy, I'd probably prefer the C2. But as I traded mine and absolutely wanted a 964 Coupe, I had to go C4 first. Now I stick to it and maybe I'll get myself something more track focused later.

You said it yourself: more traction and grip on the C4.

No fun. C2 all day, every day!

1,350km of twisting backroads with some gravel. C4 for the win.

If you like better traction resulting in a safer, more stable ride and reliable acceleration when cornering the C4 is what your looking for.
