Adjusting Cabriolet top
I was wondering if anyone has any experience in adjusting the top. During the ppI in November they found defective cable/motor assembly and this was repaired by replacing both sides. The problem is that when you close the door the top of the window glass and quarter window don't come in and properly engage the seal. if you apply light pressure at window top while closing the door it closes okay. I have had one attempt( partially successful) by the repair shop to remedy this.
I had similar problems on a mid 90's corvette which I was able to adjust out . I have been told that this is a common problem with cabriolets and that I might have to live with it. Here is what I have observed: 1. All of the window parts appear to be cab parts-- no coupe components 2. The locking motors seem to pull the front edge down too low/tight. 3. if you close the top to a normal appearing height, the doors close nicely, no excessive wind noise or water intrusion;however, the conv. warning light illuminates. Any advice is appreciated Thanks in advance, Harpreet
Since I have not tried this project yet, maybe someone can chime in with some comments from experience.
My 964 is pretty new to me, but I did have to re-do the entire driver's side of the top due to a busted support arm about two months ago. I posted my saga on this web site somewhere - with lots of pictures.
It sounds like you say the motors over the windshield that pull the roof down to be locked down, pull it too tight? The only way I can imaging you adjust that is to change the mounting brackets on the upper windshield - I believe they have a bit of adjustment "play" that you can do. If the roof is too snug, you can move the mounts up to relieve the pressure. You say you can close it where it's too tight, but you can also close it to a normal height - how are you closing it to different heights?
The cabrio top warning light comes on likely because your two microswitches at the windshield or the one switch back at the transmission is not triggered. How do you close it as a different level... again I am not sure what you mean when you mention this. If you somehow don't close the roof all the way as you mentioned, and your tranny motor upper microswitch (in the picture below) is not activated, your dash light will come on. It sounds like from your description that your tranny motors are going too far - jamming the roof shut. When you don't let them jam the roof shut all the way, you prevent the upper switch from being tripped. I would assume that the switches on the roof where the windshield is, are being tripped, since when the top is closed, they're tripped. The tranny switches, on the other hand, can still be open if that tranny arm does not get far enough. Check that tranny switch first!
Otherwise, the adjustment of the cabrio top is either a side-to-side adjustment if the top does not hit center when closing (adjusted by moving the 4 allen-head mounting screws for the support pillar), or an adjustment of the drive motor microswitches to set how far the motors drive the top when closing (when the motors stop when the roof hits the windshield and the motors lock it down) and how far they fold back the top when opening it up for a sunny drive.
If you have trouble with the window mating, it sounds like you need to adjust the window. This can be done by removing the door panel which is quite easy as well: remove big door speaker, remove door handle actuator arm by pressing it up, remove screws affixing the door pocket, remove upper trim panel and door locking/alarm light plug, remove cover of unlocking **** and unscrew **** and unscrew the circular handle, pop off the 3 or 4 plastic holders to get off the door panel. That's the quick run-down! Once in the door panel, you can see several gold colored allen head bolts that adjust the scissor mechanism of the power window. These are located fairly central to the door itself.
Well, I hope this all helps. I am off to bed now! Good luck!
