Default Importing a car from Canada to Calif...what does it take?

I am considering purchasing an 1986 Porsche from a gentleman in British Columbia. Does anyone know what it takes to import such a car to the U.S. and specifically to California? Thanks for your response!!!

(I have tried to call the DMV, but they are so understaffed that they can't ever answer!!!)

There's info. about this on DMV's website. I don't have the URL handy, but you can just google it.

Thanks Jon!

The DMV page led to the rule book, which gave me the answer. Basically, you have to prove that the canadian car is, emmisions wise, identical to the same year US model. It seems as if after 1988 that is easy to prove and early cars are harder!!

Thanks again!!
