given same driver skill, there is no way in hell long hood, 964/993 can hang with any GTx watercooled cars. not even close.
but they do have a very different "charm" that modern cars do not have.

I think people confuse 'old' with 'raw'. I think my 997RS feels more raw and mechanical than my 89. We'll see what happens when I get my 964 back... i've engineered a lot of raw and old dude into it (dynamat and AC and power steering!). To me raw = very visceral and mechanical feeling. One with the machine. A stock C2 964 is way too cushy for that, even more so than my stock 89 carrera. Now a modded car...

I think i should buy more 997 GT cars. lol. But I want a 981 boxster, have to work on my tan this summer. dr. said i need vitamin e. too pasty.

For me it is several factors: childhood dream, wanting to learn how to really drive (never owned a manual car), that and the new models 997 and later don't really appeal. Like my good friend told me you can get a 997 and be content or you can get a 964 and be truly happy.

Whats up guys
I have a 1990 C2 coupe 5 speed manual, I honestly do not know much about cars I just have always loved porsches i bought this about 4 years ago and i get random people coming to my house all the time asking to buy it. I wasnt thinking about selling it but I dont really drive it and if its worth enough I might try to sell it. It has over 200k miles and I am the second owner, the Original owner daily drove it since it was new and gave me pages and pages of repair orders done to it. I put new KW V1 suspension and real fusch wheels not to many miles ago. everything else is stock. Ac doesnt work, exterior is original but has some scratches and stuff, interior is not in great shape missing some clips and needs steering wheel and shifter redone, dash has some cracks. Always been a California car and runs and drives very well. Let me know what you guys think

thanks
I'd say 40-50k...Have you had an independent specialist look over the car to see what may need fixing aside from A/C?

Get a GTS with a cobb tune. Nice ride and lots of fun with the top down. Still prefer my C2 better even if it is slower but it is the only open car I would consider except maybe a spyder but you can't beet the one button 20 second top down.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet, the size. I love having all that lane space as I carve through the turns...

Good luck with your sale, I like the stance and look of the rims. Keep us posted.

^I find it interesting to hear other's interpretations of air-cooled vs. water-cooled 911s. I've always described the air-cooled 911 experience to the uninitiated as "raw" or "visceral" and to me, no car speaks to its operator the way an air-cooled 911 does. Mind you, the bulk of my experience is with models older than 964.

Just last weekend I raced (PCA Club) both my '83 911, and was invited to co-drive in a friend's 996 GT3 Cup Car. First time ever in a Cup, or any water-cooled Porsche on the race track. I found the 996 Cup to be very fun to drive, and very communicative to the driver. In no way would I describe it as more raw than my '83 race car, and its no where near as "chatty" to the driver as my '83. Still, great fun. I was only a few 10th quicker around the circuit in the Cup Car. I am sure with more seat time I would have easily been a few seconds faster around the course in the Cup.
