Question Tear drop mirror installation

Hey guys,

believe it or not, I still have the original square mirrors on my C4. I've always wanted the tear drops but never got around to it. Can someone let me know where I can find them for a good price and about what they cost. Is this fairly easy? Any painting involved? Thanks in advance.

They is a chap called John M who sometimes uses this board who is about to do a detailed write up on exactly this topic. Apparantly he is going to feature his instalation on his website.

Cannot quite remember the address but you will find him on the following tread.

Instalation of Mirrors or Not?

Sorry will not really help you but will make you laugh! I have seen this somewhere so if i track down i will post a link.

John M

Sorry could not help myself!

But a serious question for you. I noticed you have the RS Style steering wheel fitted. Do you use the spacer that raises the wheel slightly in order that you can see the three centre dials or use without the spacer?

My own experience is that steering feels better without the spacer, but obscures speedo.

Cheers
Pierre

There have been a number of threads (including a rough step by step guide by me) on how to do this. But search no longer finds these????

Phil Raby did a good and complete "how to" replace the barndoor mirrors with teardrops in the Dec 2002 issue of 911&PW https://baden.ipl.co.uk/cgi-bin/gen5...s.html&mag=pwo - which is still available as a back issue. (No connection other than a happy subscriber).

And I agree with Pierre, John's excellent 964 site just needs to include this essential how to, to be complete!

It hurts me to post this but Phil's write up has been up on my site for some time. Goto Reviews/Running Reports/Phil Raby and checkout his 'The Teardrop Exposed' article.
Made me cry.

John

I was looking at the section of Adrian's book whilst on holiday showing differences between LHD & RHD page 321 showing interiors & page 323 showed the rear of your car as the RHD.

Looking at the book again now I can see that the photos are not just two models side by side but several shots from different cars.

Thanks a lot John M,

I've checked out your site many times, and found much of the info incredibly useful. So its no surprise to see this article on there - I hadnt seen it in the past.

I know I'm a little "challenged", but I can't find the link to this article on Johns site...anyone point me in the right direction?

Cheers,

--Howard.

Here's the link:

everthing you wanted to know about tear drops

I did the mirror upgrade after purchasing the mirrors from vertex auto. I'd say that the upgrade by purchasing new mirrors, having a shop paint the mirrors, and for yourself to install the mirrors will run no less than $500. If you can get the mirrors via Ebay, etc. you'll save $$.

For future challenges try using my site's search button on the home page bottom left. Try a search for 'teardrop mirrors' in this case.

John

John, a search of the site in the manner described did not yield the desired result. BTW, I would not post without having tried this first.

Thanks,

--Howard.

EDIT: just FYI, a search for "Teardrop Mirror" (on www.porsche964.co.uk/)prior to this post yielded 3 or 4 hits - just now I got one (not the correct one)

A search for "teardrop" yielded 2 or 3 prior - just now I got 8 hits including the one by Phil.

Not sure how this is possible with no content change. Anyway, I should have known it would be somewhere on your excellent site !

They are called aero mirrors. They came out starting with the 1990 cars and they have no blind spot. AJ-USA sells them for $350/pair.
