Assemble the other spacer with its washers and ball bearing. Insert the shaft through the hole and place the spacer over the end. Add the nut and cinch up with the two spanners. If it’s done correctly, the shaft will move freely

Now we move to the other end. I found the hole in the bush holder was too tight on the shaft so I put a 8.5mm drill through it. I then inserted the bush and the E clip.

Reinsert the two hex screws. Be careful as the shaft slightly interferes with their direct insertion.

Now turn the shaft until the rail holders on each side of the seat rails are parallel. This is critical for seat operation.

Then fit one end of the drive shaft to the screw shaft, slide the cover over the drive shaft and reinsert into the motor gear. Test the screw shafts move relatively easily and admire your work, before you move to the other side !

Great write up! Can I suggest that you also post this in the 964 DIY section?

I'll link it. I'll drive myself nuts trying to recreate it as my phone app isn't posting pics anymore.

Five years later, I have had two hours of frustration.

I got lazy when removing the spoiler controller under the seat and put the seat back as far as the motor would take it. That was fine until I wanted to move the seat forward, nothing.

I removed the plastic guard from the front of the seat and inserted an Allen key into the manual option hole, but the plastic gear jumped. I then took the drive cable out of the motor end and tried to turn it but it was stuck firm.

At this point, I was starting to get a sick feeling in my stomach as getting the seat out of the car to fix it relied on accessing the bolts. However with the seat fully back, I couldn’t access the bolts.

With one cable side disconnected, the seat would move forward but skewed and jammed. That wasn’t the answer. I needed to release the other rail. I raised the seat as far as it would go and used a ratchet with a screwdriver end to undo the two screws holding the rail to the threaded rod. However the seat wouldn’t go fully forward as the carrier fouled on the front mount. In the end, I had to undo the front bolt enough to slide the carrier under it.

With the seat out, I can see the problem. The carrier is binding against the plastic bush. I need to find a way to make it less likely to bind.

The part which binds when the seat is fully retracted

I fitted M12 Nylon washers and used liberal amounts of garage door lubricant. It seems to be ok now.
