Default Accelerating past the pedal stop

Hi friends,

I have tweeked my accelerator pedal a bit by extending the metal rod behind it (circled on the photo). As a result, it sits a bit straighter and is not as remote to my brake pedal as before which seems to improve my heel toe ability. I have not driven much with it yet but I realize now that this is extending the course of the pedal and I was wondering if something might go wrong because of it.

In essence, it's as if I could push past the plastic pedal stop. Is that a problem?

Thanks!

I would have someone push the accelerator pedal all the way down to stop by hand while I looked at the throttle linkage at the throttle body on the engine. You have a plastic cam switch on the output shaft that signals that the engine is at full throttle. Breaking this will cause you other problems.

Thanks for the tip.

In the interim since I was by myself, I tried to gently push the pedal all the way down with my hand and it stops before ... the plastic stop. So essentially, that is not good! I will drive back home without pushing it too much and look at it a bit more tomorrow.

This is how it's been extended by the way. I must say I did not fully understand what my mechanic wanted to achieve and I am not super happy with the welding...

I am going back tomorrow to see if he can adjust the linkage in the engine so that it matches the new travel but I might need to plan for a replacement.

What is that part called exactly? Any idea where I could get a replacement?

Thanks!

You use the adjustment rod in the transmission tunnel to set the throttle position and then fine tune it with the rod under the accelerator pedal. It is possible to open the throttle past the WOT switch and still have it return to idle properly. So don't settle for just hearing the click of the WOT switch and thinking you are done. Otherwise you are "leaving stuff on the table"
