Clear power steering reservoir sources
Hello,
I need to change the power steering reservoir, but I only can find the new all black version of it.
I love the clear old one stile, on which you can see the fluid level.
Any where I can get one?
Any other vehicles combabilities may be an option, but have no idea.
It’s for a 1991 964 C2 .
Thanks,

Why change the power steering reservoir? If it isnt physically damaged you can take the one you have apart, clean it, and put it back. If you look at the "filter" its just a thin plastic screen that can easily be cleaned. Worked just fine for me when replacing my power steering rack. If the lid is leaking slightly and getting a large oil mist on the reservoir, there is an O-ring you can replace on the lid to prevent it from happening.

I had no luck cleaning the screen in the bottom of the reservoir, and there are others that have posted with the same result of their efforts. There is no way to "take it apart and put it back together".
I don't like the new, solid black version either, but, it works.
Talking to my indy, it's not at all uncommon to just change reservoirs when installing a new rack, just to make sure the screen is clean and fluid is flowing properly. This is for any model car.

Here is a cut away of the reservoir. You drain all the fluid out, you remove the screw in the center, remove the screen, clean, and then put it all back together. They use these things all over the place from german cars, marine engines, farm equipment, etx. It has a plastic screen and it only collects large particles. If your that worried about it, just take it off and backflush it. Its not a paper filter element like a oil filter, its a screen like you pour spaghetti noodles in after you cook them to strain the water out.

And heres a picture I found on the net detailing the lid o-ring. Often times it is so old and compressed it doesn't even seem like its there until you pry it out with a sharp object.

While it might be the same inside, our reservoir is different than that one pictured.
Ours look like this with the angled connections....
I have my old reservoir somewhere and will try and take a look inside. Maybe there is a way to replace the screen in the old unit with one from a new unit? I had no luck trying to back flush the screen with solvents, etc.

On mine, the reservoir was leaking at the seam. At least the new ones have a dipstick in the lid but I prefer the look of the old ones.

Looking at the photo, I don't see that the opening for the cap is big enough to allow the screen to come out.
EDIT: According to this, you can remove that screw and tilt the screen, but it does not come out. You can only try and clean it inside the reservoir...

Regardless, I'm going to keep my new one in there for now. I don't have any motivation to unwind all the new parts I have in there currently. My old screen was plugged up and the fluid only came out at a trickle. Hence, I replaced the reservoir....

Thanks you all for the inputs.
My problem is that the reservoir is leaking, but not sure where at, so I was looking into a new one.
I’ll look in more detail to the top O-ring….., didn’t consider that the fluid was going to move that much.
Thanks again,

How much fluid is it leaking? If the top stays dirty and covered by an oil mist chances are it’s the cap oring. Have you looked at the condition of the hoses? Original hoses are getting pretty old. Maybe retighten the hose clamps? BMWs come with the clamps without the tightening screw. First thing you do is replace them with standard hose clamps. No clue what Porsche put on from the factory since my cars been messed with a bunch before I bought it.

It leaks from above the tubes. The reservoir itself is dirty.
I thought it was from the junction of the two materials, but never look at the cap or the O-ring.
Any one has the size of the O-Ring?
Thanks,
