Default 964 System Adaption

As always, my 964 started first time on Friday. Then immediately stalled. And again. And again.

Only with some rapid right footwork could I keep it from stalling. As soon as I moved off, though, all was fine - the idle behaving as normal at junctions, lights, etc.

A few hours later, same thing. And again yesterday. It seems unable to find its initial idle, but sorts itself once on the move?

Some forum searches lead me to think it may need a system adaption.

Does anyone have any experience of doing this themselves? Is it a straightforward DIY job - e.g. with the T-OBD / Scantool software? (My regular indie is 120 miles away!)

The system adaptation is very simple with the Scantool. You can do it yourself. Just warm up the engine, then connect the scantool and run the system adaptation. It takes just a couple minutes to complete.

Yeah its super easy with the scantool and tore's adapter. My car stalls when cold and I let off the gas shifting between reverse and 1st gear when backing out of my garage. Once I have the system adaptation run it idles perfectly and doesn't. I have problems getting the scantool software to stay connected but once it runs, the cars idle is totally changed for the better.

Also consider cleaning out the Idle control valve with some carb cleaner and a 9V battery.... 3 minute job

The fact that it runs fine after it warms up makes me think it's not adaptation. You should only need adaptation after the battery has either died or been disconnected. Or the ECU was reset somehow.

Getting a scan tool would be good to read codes. My wild guesses would be either head temp sensor or any other component that would work after warmup. Even a coil could behave like that. Maybe even a vacuum leak.

Good luck.

I had idling issues for the first few miles after startup that I believe were fixed by an adaption using a PDT999.

My battery has been disconnected all week and then died once re-connected while interior was getting done. I have a CTEK trickle charger coming today, but which Scantool model should I purchase for this adaptation? I see a few options on their website. We weren't able to keep it on after jumping the car last night with a little handheld setup (low power).

I have this and it works with my laptop.

https://www.bergvillfx.com/index.php...4-and-993.html

It will diagnose the climate control system, airbag, ecu, as well as set the adaptation when used with the scantool software also available on his site or here on rennlist.
