Thumbs up "Passion" thread from 993 Forum

One 993 owner asked the group to explain the passion for Porsches since he didn't "get it." There were a lot of interesting responses ...

Why the passion for Porsches?

Dear Joey,
I do not think it is genuinely explainable. Passion is in the blood. I reckon itis like a little dormant gene just waiting to be awakened. The passion comes from what takes your fancy.
Personally I do not want to analyse it just enjoy it. There are a huge number of people out that without passion for anything. I think we should all be grateful to have a passion. A positive one at that which hurts nobody, in fact quite the opposite. My passion helps me get through the bad days. My passion has led me down a road I never knew I could travel. None of this can be explained. Locked up for maybe but never explained.
Ciao,
Adrian

I'm not sure if you actually read the link, but that's the point made by many. Most don't bother trying to define it; instead, they recount when they first realized they had it or what ignites these feelings.
... the emotions I get from owning a 95 C2 Cab start with the appreciation of a great and powerful woman who has soft curves in the right places and the authority to use those curves.
It's not a search for a definitive answer, it's simply a good read.

Passion is like loving a woman, or for some people a guy, get the butterfly feeling all over you, get the extra energy, feel the adrenaline flow!

Without the passion you better stop donig the things you do.

At the age of 5, my father and I watched the movie Le Mans with Steve McQueen... That was essentially the seed of my Porsche passion...

I know this movie impacted others as well.. Ahhh.....

Mine was getting blown away on the South Eastern Freeway, going up hill by not one but two brand new 911SCs in 1978. I said I have go to get me one of those. The rest they say is history. Took me 20 years but!

I dunno about you guys...but MY passion for the Porsche DOES hurt some things:

1) Tires

2) Brake Pads

3) Finances!

Good one Adrian...fell asleep - we're gettin' to ya aren't we??

One day we'll turn you into a total "cut-up" like me.

Dear Jeff,
I am already a certified nutter. Porscherised. I write at crazy hours as well. These passion things are just so boring. I say enjoy what you have. Don't ask why just enjoy.

PS: You should try the cost of writing. Paper, laser printer cartridges, postal costs, faxes, medical bills. That should pay for about one set of tyres.

PSS: I am still waiting for your 911SC stuff for chapter 11 and maybe chapter 12. I need to cover the 911SC track junkies as well.

Passion is not understanding why; but just understanding.
I own two P-cars, but am not satisfied. Maybe I need a third or even a fourth. Not a new one, it must be used, have character, must be air cooled, maybe not be 100% perfect. There's that sound, that shape, those wheels, that shifter, the simplicity. Creature comforts are in the mind with a Porsche. It's noticing ever Porsche on the road, waving, flicking lights, talking to perfect strangers about the intimacy of our affairs with this marquee. It reading every magazine and every article, maybe you've read similar ones in other magazines, but its still. It having your neighbor say how clean your car is, and you only notice the dirt. It's polishing and waxing far too often, specks of dust become boulders. And of course it reading all of the post on Rennslist...

These are my thoughts about "OUR" passion!!!!

Being new gives me a different perspective, and I think there are things some of you take for granted and forget about since you've had immediate access to these great machines so long .... at least no one has mentioned:

** the sound, the incredible, unexplainable boxer song. WOW. Last week it was 10 degrees (Fahrenheit) and I'm driving with the window down because I'm behind a Porsche and I'd rather freeze than miss the sound.

** the feel of the engine in the small of your back.

** the steering and suspension feedback. Porsche is expensive, but where can you get this for less, or even in the same price range? It's a bargain.

** the brakes. Ohmigawd. How does anything that goes so fast stop so fast, and easy, and under control?

A lot of the posts sound sexual. Mine is sensual for sure, but when I drive the Porsche I will one day own, I'll be charged up afterward I know, not wanting a cigarette or a snooze J

Dear Joe,
Please do not get it wrong. Still to this day I get a smile on my face. A serious smile. All what you say still happens to me. Winter is my favourite time. Driving up to my village and thinking to myself, how luckly am I to be driving into a christmas card in my Porsche. Who would have thought this.
What I am saying is that I do not try and analyse it. I just enjoy the feeling.
When that feeling is lost it is time to move onto something else.
To give you some perspective. I drove the BMW M3 CSL. Great machine but it did not tickle the senses like a Porsche does.
Ask my wife Gail what I was like after taking a couple of RUFs out.
Ciao,
Adrian

My passion for my Porsche has my wife accusing me of only coming home
to visit the car. Whenever I arrive home I always stop in the garage for
a visit with the P-Car. Next take it out for a spirited drive.
How can you not love a something that makes you feel soooo good.
