Tire opinions Fro 7 & 8 Cup 1's
Just picked up a set of Cup 1's in 17X7 and 17X8 and need some new rubber for them. Any brands work better? What did Porsche put on for OEM in 91? This car is not used in driving events. Thanks!

The Cup 1 wheel was not available until the RS America came out in '93. As for the original brand of tires, why would you want to use a 10 year old tire design when there are so many good ones to choose from?
If you want to be as authentic as possible, then I recommend selecting one of the Porsche certified model tires. They have a N0, N1, N2, N3 etc in their model description. For example, Tire Rack (www.tirerack.com) has
Bridgestone S-02A N4
Continental ContiSportContact 2 N2
Michelin Pilot SX MXX3 N1
Michelin Polit Sport Rib N2
Pirelli PZero Rosso Asimmetrico N3
I'm running the Bridgestone S-02A's on Cup 1's and am happy with them. I'm sure others will say good things about others. Ultimately, its a personal decision on what brand of tire you like the feel of.

Model year 1991 964s came standard with 16 inch design 90 wheels.
The design 16 inch 92 wheel was introduced as the standard wheel for model year 1992 and the 17 inch wheels of the sizes you mention were offered as options. Some time before the RSA. Remembering the first RSAs were delivered in May 1992 as 1993 models.
There were four choices of factory tyres in model year 1991 and the customer could not actually choose them. Option M231 determined the tyre choice and this was made in the factory.
