is it possible to clean the inner part of the lens on a dash gauge?

here I peeled off the inner plastic piece which was held on quite tightly by cement. This cement was then removed with a razor blade and then some goof-off...

Yeah, I thought of that.... we'll see. That's on the outside of the gauge, so if I feel like it I'll peel it off then. I just thought I'd keep it as original as possible... but what's the point, right??

when you put it back together, did you put any thing between the glass and the holder? my is loose cause the plastic is gone and the lense is thinner now.
and how did you bend the ring back in shape?

Hi Tenn,
I crimped the black ring on tighter so that it was not loose now that it was missing the 1mm thickness from that plastic piece.
Regarding reinstallation - it was almost three years ago (wow, time flies!) so I don't remember exactly but I believe I used a screwdriver to press the flared edges back together. That's how I'd do it now if I did it again. Just don't slip and stab yourself!

same comment, I know this thread is old, but very good advice + Pics. My problem is the tach - the lens feels like plastic. I suspect the original plastic covering is an anti-reflective plastic. No other reason I can think of that Porsche would have specified this for.

i removed all of my guages, i was surprised to find the only 2 of the smaller lenses were made of glass. the tach was acrylic material. not all the lenses are glass with the film layer. you can tell by lightly tapping at the different lenses. they sound differently.
