Default Door pockets

Has anyone fitted any of the several aftermarket door pocket replacements on their 964 ? I eventually want to replace mine as the previous owner overtorqued the bolts on both sides and cracked the mounting forms inside the closeable lid ( or whatever it's called ). I noticed one company offers a real carbon fibre version now. The OEM replacements are about $1000 CDN each !!! I am curious to know what the quality is like and how they fit. I have also considered the RS America replacement panels as well, as I never seem to use the closeable pockets. That may be cheaper way to go. Has anyone installed these on their non RS America ? Regards, Brady

You can repair the cracked inside part using some sheet metal and some screws - make a sandwich of the cracked plastic portion with two pieces of metal, affix them together with sheet metal screws, and then screw that "sandwiched" part in to the door handle section - that can fix your cracked plastic part that makes the door pockets hang - and it will cost you about $5 in parts and maybe an hour to complete.

Yep, Garrett's right. While my car was at Andial having the passenger side remote locking repaired, they fixed my inner pocket mounting area with a metal plate. At least I think it was Andial--didn't notice it before, and I know I didn't do it.

Here's how I did my doors, using plumber's tape instead of sheet metal (sheet metal would probably be stronger as I described, but this is all I had). You can see that the driver's side and passenger side broke differently, with the passenger side in a lot of broken pieces, thus the repair was different for each side...

Here's a closeup of the driver's side...

I discovered mine had been cracked by the removal process, there is a small regulator(I think) mounted to the door and if you try to remove the pocket it becomes hooked on this and cracks at the point you show here. I fixed my pocket and prevented the possibility of further cracks by removing a small segment of the plastic that get stuck when fitting and removing....sorry no pictures I have already put them back on.

Thanks for the great info. I will try to repair myself. This seems to be a common problem. Regards, Brady

It's amazing, on such an expensive vehicle, we are dealing with petty things like this. Regards, Brady
