Ahem....... where would you take these cars to be able to make that kind of assessment?

C'mon, who wouldn't like to tear up a brand new car? Once you step in a 951 your one with the car. In these newer cars the damn computers do the steering for you.

Geez,
Throughout threads, including this one, I hear what a PITA maintenance nightmare these cars are.
I am one of the lucky ones. I had a clutch line break once. Other than that I've had a completely reliable car. No nightmares. Normal maintenance is all I have had, other than upgrades. Only had my car a year and a half, but keeping my fingers crossed.

i agree...i really havent had the nightmare everyone always talks about.Indeed when i was first looking for a 951 i was hesitant...because everyone was always talking upkeep numbers....and even though i had owned two other 944's ...they always said the cars were very different in bills.I am very lucky for i havent really had any problems with my car other than the heater hoses going out on my on i90,i had to replace the tranny bolt that connects the shift **** to the rest of the linkage.....other than that i just change the oil when i am supposed to and wash it every three days or so.Call me crazy but, i couldnt deal with a car having twicthy steering.....i drive fast and i need a car that insures confidence. The 951 is a much better car stock...and lightly modded will hand just about any mr2 its ***.....case in point my own race expeirence tells me the mr2 just cant hang.So for arguments sake lets say the 951 will no doubt cost you more money.....its also more car.Would you be alright knowning that you bought the lesser car?!? I wouldnt......

Nope, i wouldn't be alright choosing the lesser car
MR2 is out of the picture. I posted a similar thread to this in the MR2 forums and it got deleted. I thought that was kinda weird. But the main reason is because - I simply like the 951 better.
I also e-mailed Tim at Speed Force Racing and he said, "If you're going to get a Toyota, get a Supra." Well that solves everything, I don't have enough $$ for a Supra so my decision has been made - 951! Unfortunately because I'm still living at home my dream might not come true till JULY. Insurance rates are insane and my parents don't want to help.

Three Wheelin'
The Supras (I have owned one and driven many) have been too heavy for a long, long time. In the range of 3500 pounds. They also have their steering too numb, not enough road feel for my taste comes through the wheel. Not that it's hard to control or anything, but just numb compared to the 951.
Power though....my gosh those things can make unworldly amounts of power on the stock blocks. It doesn't take a great deal of money to make one have over 500hp at the flywheel on them and several of them have been massaged to make over 900RWHP.
They seem to have pretty good reliability, but after the Fast and Furious came out, the prices on them (which had been pretty stable anyway) went back up some and finding one that hasn't been modded and driven hard may be more difficult than finding a stock 951. Not too many of them out there either compared to the 3000GT and 300ZX. The Pre-OBDII ones are usually more desirable for modding as well.

980rwhp on the stock block to be exact. Check out the featured ride @ www.racingflix.com
No guarantee how long it will last before it blows up though =p
