Unhappy Offset Question

Finally figured why my car handles and look strange.... Upgraded my 86' 951 to Big Reds with 17" C2 Wheels (60mm).

Installed with the following spacers and studs:
FRONT WHEELS
#911.331.671.00 (10) ten 65mm wheel bolts (stock is 45mm) ~ $5/ea
#477.501.701 (2) two 21mm wheel spacer (came stock on rear of '82-85 944NA) ~$15/ea

REAR WHEEL
#901.331.671.01 (10) ten 72mm wheel bolts (stock is 45mm) ~ $5/ea
#930.331.611.04 (2) two 28mm wheel spacer (used on rear of 911-turbo) ~20/ea

MISTAKE!!!!!!

No wonder my wheels look so "inwards"..... any the rear wheels are "inner" than the front wheels...

Besides changing for another set of wheels.... what other options are there???

I had my PO install late model offsets on the 86 WITHOUT spacers. Think yours looks odd? Mine on the passenger side rear looked like someone had a tunnel up under the car to reach the tire/wheel. He had used some 2" spacers on the rear but had the left rear wheel rub when he did so and he kept those spacers to sell when I bought the car. I had thought about that same setup you are doing and even bought one set of the spacers, but nothing else and I needed to change an A-arm up front or get a ball joint done and I decided to just change it all and go to a late model suspension as I could sell the early stuff and not be out nearly so much money. I bought the stuff I needed from an 87 (front spindles, tie rod ends, rotors front and rear, rear hubs, and the A-arms) and had that installed to deal with both problems. Worked like a charm and now I don't have to worry about any safety issues with running spacers whether street or track and the wheels look MUCH better now where they are, both front and rear.

So as I see it, you have 2 options if you leave wheels out of it like I did. 1) is to try bigger spacers in the rear until you find something that fits right based upon some SWAGging (Scientific Wild **** Guess) or 2) find and install some late offset supsension parts.

My wheels had been repainted many times...

Rear wheels says 9.5 and 65 or 68mm (cant see clearly)

Front wheels: 8 and ??mm

Anyone knows what size of spacers, should I be using? Can my existing 65mm and 72mm bolts stay.

turbo944, you po installed 17" without spacers???? Anyway.. i did some math on our 86's offset and found:

front: 36.8% of the wheels outset (from hub) and 63.2% inset of hub

rear: 38.5% outset and 61.5% inset

So, as we upgrade to larger wheels... the best setup would be to maintain the above stock percentile (as close as possible)... right?

You are trying to get close to 23.3mm which was the stock offset. You only need spacers. Post this to the main944 board, there are hundreds of people who have done it and probably 4 times the activity of the Turbo only board.
