Default A 951 Is the Perfect Answer for Mundane Errands

Face it, nobody really likes to go to the DMV.

I had to renew my driver's license today. Normally, I would hate every second that elapsed between leaving and returning home.

So I decided to drive my new-to-me 951 'S' to the DMV.
[Therein lies a side challenge: Will I be able to successfully renew my license, while managing not to lose said license in the process? ]

Best trip to the DMV ever! To say that driving the 951 made it enjoyable is an understatement. Not only was getting there and back a blast, I don't even really remember much about actually being at the DMV.

While I was there, all I could think about was what was waiting to greet me in the parking lot.

Nice

Why do you have to renew driver's licence? Is driver's licence time limited in us?

Yes, a way for states to collect monies to support all the people who work there or get hand out.

Interesting. Our licences need to be renewed when we turn 80 years old. Mine is valid until 2060

The policy for our licenses varies by state. They're frequently renewed through the mail, but occasionally you have to appear at the DMV to have a new photo taken (our licenses serve as identification) or have your vision checked. The cost of a license generally comes to a few dollars per year.

Friend of mine did the driver's licence in the states I think in FL and when he came back here he switched it for our licence and got the motorcycle licence (Cat. A) also. Strange since here, motorcycle A licence is x2 more expensive than car licence and you have to pass road and skill test course.

Can you drive motorcycle with regular US driver's licence or is there separate licence like here?

In most (maybe all?) states it's a separate license. The testing is generally not too stringent. You usually have to pass a written test and then a very basic riding test. The riding test is typically low speed maneuvering within sight of an evaluator. Here's an example ->
. If someone can't pass this, they probably won't live long riding a sport bike in Chicago.

Lol, well you just never know what direction a thread will take...
It wasn't really about the driver's license, but since that's now the subject...

In my communist state (MD), the full renewal period apparently dropped from 10 to 8 years... I guess so they can collect another fee (tax) a bit sooner, on top of the exorbitant vehicle registration fees (more taxes).
The only "test" was the eye test. And I had to get a new picture taken. And pay $48. The whole transaction takes maybe 5 minutes. You spend more time than that waiting on line.
Motorcycle licenses are a separate test/license class here as well.

Anyhow... the first words out of my mouth to my wife after I returned home were, "I F-ing love that car. I will get rid of <cars XYZ> before I get rid of that car."
At one point a year or so ago, my mindset was, "maybe I'll just get a 944 Turbo until I find a 2.0L F.I. 914 that I really want, and then I'll get rid of it."

Sheeeeeeeeeeiiiiit. That ain't happening.

I never take my 951 out for errands. Too many knuckleheads in parking lots with heavy doors. Have two little door dents on my right rear fender lip. Argghghghg, otherwise none on the car.

Sorry to hear.
Yeah I think it takes at least 15-20 years off whatever your actual age is

Good point, however I always park away from other cars whenever possible. Any car I drive.

This is one of the main appeals of the 951. Name another car in its class that can hold lumber, skis, groceries, a drum kit, or whatever.

Park away and walk.

I couldn't agree more! I love driving the NA or the turbo any chance I get, life's too short not to.

However, if I get stuck in traffic, all I can think about is the automatic transmission in my other car. First world problems...
