Question one more map datalogging question.

My latest problem datalogging is that I do not know how to open files correctly once I have saved them. When I open one of my saved logging sessions in notepad, all the data comes up as letters from some other language or sometimes the files are empty. What program should I use to open the files? Should I not save them as .txt?

You can save them as text - I do. And I use notepad and/or wordpad to open them without a problem. Actually, it's been a while since I played with that - try using wordpad or Word to open the files - sometimes notepad doesn't like basic formatting like tabs...

Save then as a .txt file and then use the import function in Excel, works great.

hmm, looks like where im opening the file is not the problem. Possibly the problem is how im plugging the serial link into my computer.... I am connecting the black box directly to the serial port without a cable, but it doesnt seem like a good fit. Is there supposed to be a cable to run from the computer's serial port to the black box?

Yes, there is a cable listed for sale on the Guru website. That's why it doesn't fit in too well....there are also probably pins that swap between the exit and entry points to your serial port as well....that would cause it to not log data to your laptop as it wouldn't be quite operating correctly to receive the data.
