Turbo Cup Reimagined...
Like a Rennlist choose your own adventure.
As soon as I get home from this extended business trip, I plan on starting work restoring my Turbo Cup replica back to closer to how the factory would have intended it. I plan on documenting everything on my blog.
http://www.944turbo.com/944-turbo-cup.html
One of the first things I'm going to do is strip it down and paint it, and I am like my wife picking out tile for the bathroom -- I can't decide on a damn color.
I keep coming back to the color of the 911 Sport Classic. I want something retro, a nod to the '70s and '80s.
https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/prod...016-12725.html
Not sure what the color code is, but it's gorgeous.
I'd probably keep the subtle racing stripes down the middle.
Then I saw this the other day. A little "wild" but a great looking color...
So first thing is paint. Next thing will be the RS style carpet, a little lightweight sound deadening, but also with some bare interior for a nice offset of color.
End goal? A trackable street car vice the full up race car it is now. Mechanically, the previous owner built a 944 Turbo Cup to stock specs, down to the magnesium intake manifold. I am not going to modify the engine at all, the only thing I will do is tone-down the exhaust (completely open).
Would love color inputs!
Of note... this will be a years, and years long build as I'm doing it on a budget but do not want to skimp. That just means longer time between projects. I'm thinking 7-10 years of work before I get it where I want it. It is partly due to that long-term outlook that I am so excited for this Turbo Cup project.
Thanks,
Matt

I had similar dilemma with picking color, alpine white is just too vw golf1 color, so I went with biarritz white. In essence it is white with few drops of black and few drops of red.
It looks somewhat porcelain-ish in person and I love it.

Hi Matt.
If I would build TC replica I would go with one of the three colors the Cups was delivered in. Alpin Weiss, Indishrot or Schwarz. The 951 looks incredible in all 3 especially with Cup stance.

Thanks for the inputs. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I want to rebuilt it to what it COULD have come from the factory like, not necessarily an exact Cup car replica. Maybe I'm just not a fan of black, white, or even (gasp) red... I'm leaning towards the Sport Classic Grey, I think that color is just stunning. Not sure the actual paint code for the racing stripes though, and I think they'd look awesome on a 944 Turbo.
Decisions decisions.

Your first post showed a beautiful 911 in a beautiful color but imo that is not a nod to the 70s or 80s. If your going for authentic then it's black or white or India red. Yes gasp red. Black is unable to show the lines on these cars White is the color of 1960's refrigerators however with stripes and color accents it could work Or you could go with Carmine Not original to the cup cars yes red but not one anyone has seen in huge numbers yes a nod to the 80's

Sam, the '88 is Stone Grey so while I love the dark greys, I thought I'd go with something lighter.
I'll try to find a carmine red, not sure what that looks like.
Thanks!

Carmine red is rare, it's from the '80's some also refer to it as Cherry red, it is totally different than India red(also known as the more familiar Guards red), over 90% of red P-cars are probably Guards red. Carmine is not going to be "correct" for a Cup car. Porsche is reviving Carmine red by offering it as an option on their GTS cars, for example the Cayman GTS and Cayenne GTS, on the Cayman GTS it's approximately a $2800 option.

FINALLY got my seat in from the slow-boat from Europe. Seat is FIA approved, good build quality from a small manufacture in Poland. http://bimarco.eu
The Porsche emblem looks awesome. Seats are as close as I can get, under budget, to the original RECARO seats from the '80s that came in the Turbo Cups.
Took measurements to get the side mounts built... looking forward to getting them installed. Hopefully before the DE season is over at VIR!

Thanks, they seem to be a quality build. Happy enough to grab a second for the passenger seat. Was only going to order one until I could see in person. For a third the Recaro cost, FIA approved with homologation number, brand new build. Plus, the Porsche crest.
