Default Balance shaft heat shield needed?

I'm putting my K27/6 in for the first time, and I've ordered the later water inlet system and cut the y pipe to add a flexible hose in the middle to accommodate things, so that should be good to go, but I'm debating whether or not to install the small balance shaft heat shield and front intake support. I'm not using the vacuum tree having deleted CV and gone LR AOS, and I can bundle the harness, alternator wires and AOS tube together in some heat shielding.

The little balance shaft heat shield doesn't seem to do much except connect the rear support, which I do have in and pre aligned with the intake, and the front support where the vacuum manifold would attach. Any one else leave these bits out? Keeping all the other heat shields.

Thanks!

It does start to get tight in there.

Looking at Steve's thread, it appears he deleted that piece of tin. I'm modeling it with mine for the time being. This may change though, depending on how much entanglement I end up with. Right now, it's looking doable to leave it in the picture.

If that is the one I am thinking of when I deleted it, I ended up melting my oil fill neck. I have since replaced it.

I have that one, I found it loose when I took out the old turbo, the PO had apparently not thought it needed to be secured, that as well as the rear intake support I have installed. The one I'm thinking about leaving out is very small, doesn't block much, and mostly just provides a tie down for the harness and alt wires. Goes right over the oil feed banjo for the turbo.

This is the heat shield I think you're referring to?

That's the one, anyone ever have any problems leaving it out?

Yeah, I cooked the balance shaft seals in short order. I put the shield back on and havent had a leak since replacing the seals and that heat shield.

If you look at pictures 8 and 9 of my post #7 in that thread, you'll see the heat shield I fabricated for the hot side of the turbo. It wraps nearly 180 degrees around. Seems to be working fine for now...

Excellent point Steve - my apologies for NOT catching this and pointing it out. Gawd knows I've spent countless hours reading and re-reading your thread and staring at the photos.
