Default Spacer or not a spacer on dipstick tube?????

Wrapping up my PITA oil pan gasket replacement and I bought a spacer and seal for the dipstick tube to oil pan but not sure what the purpose and/or proper use of it.

Here's a pic with the spacer. Apparently it must be something about the oil level so I assume with the spacer you are going to have more oil in the pan.

Anyone know the exact usage and need for the spacer? I don't think my car had the spacer installed but it may have disintegrated as I'm not even sure it had the O ring.

Car is an 86 951 with early oil pan.

Are you sure about that? Checking PET, there is a spacer, 944 107 329 00 and O-ring. Reason I ask is that when I pulled the intake for a vacuum hose refresh, on my '89, when I put it back together, the oil guide tube didn't seem to fit right. At the time, I just put it together, and have wondered about the oil level since. I over fill it just in case.

The PET diagram #104-01 (for 952) shows the spacer and oring while the earlier models show a round seal and list a spacer in the BOM as well.

Use just the o-ring with that dip stick tube. There are several different dip stick tubes for these cars and that spacer is not for that particular tube.

No spacer for sure, just an o-ring.
