Spacer or not a spacer on dipstick tube?????
Wrapping up my PITA oil pan gasket replacement and I bought a spacer and seal for the dipstick tube to oil pan but not sure what the purpose and/or proper use of it.
Here's a pic with the spacer. Apparently it must be something about the oil level so I assume with the spacer you are going to have more oil in the pan.
Anyone know the exact usage and need for the spacer? I don't think my car had the spacer installed but it may have disintegrated as I'm not even sure it had the O ring.
Car is an 86 951 with early oil pan.

Are you sure about that? Checking PET, there is a spacer, 944 107 329 00 and O-ring. Reason I ask is that when I pulled the intake for a vacuum hose refresh, on my '89, when I put it back together, the oil guide tube didn't seem to fit right. At the time, I just put it together, and have wondered about the oil level since. I over fill it just in case.
