Bad BOV

Bad BOV
To test the BOV, you suck through the nipple on the top of teh BOV right? Just tested mine with a vacuum tester, not holding vacuum. Tried to suck air through it also, and I was able to do so. You should not be able to suck any air at all through the BOV, correct? Should I be upgrading to the 993TT BOV? Where's cheapest place to get it?
Thanks

I'm using the 993TT unit. It's the standard replacement for 951's and was less than $30 at the dealer. If no dealer near you then try Paragon.
Make sure you tighten the clamps on the hoses to it pretty good. Mine popped off this weekend and made a really cool BOV sound but the car severly lost power.

You'll have it alot faster by going to your local dealership and buying the part, but sometimes they may have to order it because they usually don't keep some parts in stock. It will save you a weeks time of shipping if you order from a website.

I have the Saab unit it you want it. 20 bucks plus shipping (what like 5 dollars!). Nearly brand new, came with the car.

I'm running the Saab unit - works just fine and it's a Bosch part so it fits like stock only with better internals. The local Porsche dealer didn't have any 993 BOVs, but the Saab dealer had theirs.

which is the best to get between the 993 TT one and the saab? is there a better yet one for cheap? Is it worth replacing a perfectly good 951 BOV with the 993 TT or Saab one? thanks!

you mentioned that with the bov disconnected you lost alot of power. This would not be the case with an aftermarket bov correct? wat is the advantage of recycleing the air instead of venting it to the atmosphere?

Holds boost in between shifts so the turb odoes not have to constantly spool up between shifts. The ricers then vent to atmosphere are defeating the purpose of a BOV. Just to make the psssssssffttt sound.

i think the only time, correct me if im wrong, which i could really be, that you would benefit more from having a BOV that vents to the atmosphere is if your running huge HP numbers, High boost etc. this is what i THINK, I'd like to know if thats true myself...

I have always wondered why people vent to the atmosphere (this is how my '86 is set up), it makes a lot more sense to me to dump it back into the intake and take advantage of the pressurized air shooting into the turbo compresor inlet.
Any one have any real data on this?
