Anyone have any data on AFM & DME? Were they 0-8v unregulated and soldered-on chip like '85 944na?

Turbos in 85 were late comers and were much anticipated and sold out long before they were actually made.

My friend has one.

There was a half year model where they went from the square to the oval. I know this because I owned the 85 1/2 year model.

Anyone got any engine number info on these 85 models?

Mine was ordered (invoice date 1) - 1985-08-23 and is #40383

It has the M44/50 engine. Number 45G00287. There was only 300 of these engines built? (original source no longer found)

Always wanted to know if the m44\50 had thicker cylinder walls and a stronger built engine, been looking for a block like that for some time only to find out. With only 300 produced its no wonder i have not found one.

Here is the customs document for the import of the 1986 944 Playboy Escort Cup cars from Germany into the US.

Two 85 pre-production (?) turbos in the 1985 24 HR Nelson Ledges event. One entered by Fred Baker Bedford Porsche, other by Brumos.

No idea of the serial numbers on these cars, engine codes, suspension or other motorsport upgrades. Appears the black brumos car does have the early Matter cage. No headlight washers in the bumper cover, looks like the late oval dash.

These 85 Playboy/Escort cars are pretty unknown. There is more documentation on the later 86 Escort Clubsports and more so for the 87 Escort/Cups.

Is the Matter alum or steel?

Probably steel was an SCCA homologation requirement.

Default 1985 944 Turbos

So do we have any proof of a 1985 951 with a F letter in the VIN, indicating 85-year, or do they all have the G letter, indicating an 86 model, built and sold in 85?

Agree that steel would have been an SCCA requirement. I had some thought that the '86 Euro cup Matter cages were aluminum, but no longer sure where that belief came from.

The '86 US Clubsports were raced in the Escort series with a mix of Matter and other cages, and I don't know why that was the case.

Does your cage have the short rear bars over the back seat, or the long bars extended to the rear of the hatch with the diagonal?

The diagonal is on the main hoop in front of the back seat. When I took it through tech at the Walter Midy at Road Atlanta a few years ago, they were surprised to see a log book that old. SCCA sanctions the event and they insisted that I add higher door bars, which I did. My fabricator did a great job in just a couple of hours.
