Default 944 5 speed trans speed sensor

I have removed all of the factory wiring and gone the Motec ECU, PDM, Dash.
Im thinking of using the factory gearbox hall effect sensor as a speed sensor for the Motec.
Does anyone know what pick up it uses? number of teeth? sensor voltage etc..

It would be easier to use this sensor at the moment.
Worst case I would have to get a 968 sensor kit

Thanks

I believe it has 8 teeth. Not sure on voltage.

The sensor is it's own voltage generator and is driven by a plastic gear on the diff itself.

It doesn't create a voltage by a toothed wheel.

Thanks for that
any idea what pulses it sends out??
I should be able to use that sensor still. just need to know what calibration I need to enter into the ECU so it can read it

No I don't and unless it'd be something custom like you are attempting, there would be no reason for that info to be known since under factory conditions, a change of tooth count on the drive or driven gear would supply a range of variance for any of the final drive/tire variables offered by the factory.

You should be able to measure your own at given speeds and make notes. I'd assume 0-10v scale AC...?

Some vehicles (GM 90's) used a "buffer" to calibrate to the speedo cluster to make all other parts interchangeable. So if down the assembly line, it got R&P = 4.11 or 3.73, it got XX or XY buffer.

Can't you use gear selected vs. rpm x final drive to get a display value...?

It produces 8 ground pulses for each full 360 degree rotation. With a pull-up resistor, it will create a square wave, but it's fairly messy so needs conditioning to work with most modern edge-triggering electronics. See DIY details here:
