half shafts
First off, yeah I searched before posting....
My car is an '89 making roughly 300 at the wheels, used for track only on Hoosier slicks. 750/900 spring rate, all monoballs, Motion Control dampers, etc. It has a Lindsey trans mount (stiff and noisy)
The driver's side axle has a bunch of rotational play in the inner CV, no doubt the axles have reached the end of their service life.
What is the consensus on replacement parts - should I just buy new OEM axles? I'd rather not have a failure in a fast sweeper and crash the car into a wall to save a few bucks, but I'm not made of money either.
Opinions?

I agree, the OEM GKN half shafts are good. I have installed them in my own car and numerous customer cars with no issues.
I am pretty sure they come with new hardware, make sure that you torque the bolts to the specified 30 ft-lbs, and re-check them after the first drive! And re-check them before every event.
I like the look of the locking CV bolts that have been discussed on these pages, and I will probably get them at some point. But, because I regularly check the CV bolt torque, I have never had issues after almost 10 years of tracking my 951.

I ordered GKN half shaft assemblies from Pelican. $200 each, plus a few bucks for new bolts and such.
Considering how much money I have sunk in this car it's just noise.

Try $1050 for a set of LR axles, and being happy that $150 was saved plus wait time and shipping cost. These cars can eat your bank, the whole bank franchise that is, if allowed.
