1986 951 track wheel question
Hi,
We have an 1986 (87 spindles) 951 track car with Bilstein Cup suspension and Big Reds on the front. Fenders have been rolled. I managed to bent two rims last weekend on the track. They are Fikse 17*7 (53mm offset with 225 tires) and 17*9 (18mm offset with 275 tires). I would like to go square all around to simplify tire management. Can anyone tell me what size rims/tires would work? What have you guys been running? All the tire companies give is for stock rims, based on your original car, which doesn't work for us. Aftermarket or Porsche, it's all good. I'm also looking for parts to repair the Fikse: need inner and outer halves for each wheel.
Thanks,
Buzz

I'm running Boxter/993/996 17" X 9" et 50-52 with 275 Hoosier A-7's square on an '89. No rubbing anywhere, and the A-7's are sized like a 285+ in any other tire.
It works pretty well, last weekend I was 6th fastest of the day out of more than 100 cars, the only car that cost less than $100,000 in the top ten (mostly GT-3s)

What do you run on the back? Also, does your later car have more room in the front than my 86?
Thanks for the info. Hope to get more suggestions.

If you want to run a square setup you will need different offsets for the '86. On mine I am running 18x9.5's with 265 square tires. Offsets are +24 on the front and -1 on the back. The offsets are quite aggressive though and required some guard work. I'm also not sure if your offset might be changed with the '87 spindle.
The easiest way to check what will fit is to use this website:

Just plug in the numbers for your current wheels, and compare them to whatever wheels you are interested in buying. Get some measurements from your car to see how much clearance you have around your current wheels, and you'll easily be able to figure out if any wheels will fit or not. That is how I worked out the offsets I needed for my custom wheels.
