Default turbo cooling pump hose failure

I swear, my '89 is going to send me to the grave...if it isn't one thing, it's another. Last fall I had a catastrophic turbo failure...Short story is original turbo, worn bushings from previous owner, compressor thrust into housing...Destroyed housing. Evergreen turbo came through...hats off to the guys in florida.

Pulled intercooler to clean out, pulled head to inspect for damage (thankfully none), replaced several hoses, and even replaced motor mounts with OEM Porsche while turbo was out. A nightmare of a task overall.

Now I take car on maiden voyage and halfway to my destination, the hose from the aux pump to the turbo elbow fails at the point where the elbow ends. Coolant spews out. I relieve pressure on cap, nurse to a local garage and inspect. I didnt lose all the coolant. Gauge only read just over 1/4...Typically it is at 1/4. Praying I didn't damage anything.

Go to find a replacement hose, and learn the hose is no longer available. Per Pelican parts diagram, part is 951.106.248.00.

944online sells a replacement with heat shield:

Problem is it needs the new fitting, and the elbow, if I remember, cannot be easily removed without removing the turbo....aahhhhh!!!!

Any insight here? Can I use a surrogate hose? Alternate source? Is the new hose from944online worth it? Sounds like before it was discontinued, Porsche switched to this as well when they superceded the old part.

Thanks folks, and happy Easter.

Joe

Thanks. It looks like my part number was off. Probably explains why I couldn't find anythin

All the links are very helpful. It looks like I will have to change the nipple out regardless since all the hoses appear to be at a 90 degree angle now. I refuse to pull the turbo after the misery I went through putting it in. If I cant get the elbow out with it in place, I'll likely stuff the hole deep with cotton or similar then use a hack saw to cut the pipe enough to get it to unscrew without hitting anything. Never a dull moment owning a 951.

What I cant seem to figure out is why the car had the 90 deg pipe in the first place. 944Online claims this item was changed out to the straight design by '88 even though I have a correct "S" turbo...must have been the previous owner again.

Can't you just use a piece of 5/8" heater hose from the auto parts store?

yep, that's what I opted to do. The 90 deg elbow is in perfect shape and I realized there is no real reason to remove it from the turbo. The folks at 944Online said the same thing. So I'll custom fit a 5/8" hose as you mentioned and should be good. I think the original hose had a larger diameter at one end, but I am told the 5/8" hose can stretch to fit it regardless.
