Default Dashboard really costs $3000 ??

http://thegarage.jalopnik.com/heres-...944-1749216869

The black vinyl dashboard was trashed and cracked all the way through in multiple places, a shame since it’ll have to be repaired - a new one from Porsche costs north of $3000.

What about these for $100 ??

Rob at Classic 9 will make it look better than new, for under $1000.

He's just trying to talk it up for the Jalopnik readers. Last sells em' without any cracks for around $500-$600 I believe.

Those posts are infuriating. That thing is a parts car. I hate watching people struggle with 944s that obviously need to be put down.

Agreed and jalopnik really seems to have it out for 944s...

That being said, who knows what the future holds, I've followed enough pelican build threads on 911s that were well beyond parts cars.

Why do you say it's a parts car? I've seen countless examples of restorations of cars that were in 500 times worse shape.

There aren't any 944 dashes worth 100 bucks. They are worth 500 and up, for a perfectly uncracked used dash, or 150 to 250 for a nice-ish but cracked dash, ALL of which, at that price are seriously cracked.

No 944 needs to be put down. With some love and the right hands on the right tools they're all great cars.

Classic 9 is a nice setup. I have the french seem around the cluster vs. along the seem coming down. If anyone would like photos let me know.

BTW, there is nothing wrong with what he said about the dash, new from Porsche they around that much.

1. All of the expensive pieces of the interior are ruined including the seats and dash.
2. It doesn't run.. Yeah owner says its a simple fix, that's rarely the case.
3. Major neglect. I would be willing to bet that almost all the rubber on the car is dry if the exhaust fell off the car.
4. DB previous owner with lots of "stores"
5. It's crashed and needs completely painted.

Any of these things by themselves can be costly on a 944 turbo, but to fix it right he's going to have more than 10k in it... The best outcome he could hope for is taking that gauge cluster out and installing it in a really nice high mile car.

When you can still buy nice non S turbos for 10k it doesn't make sense to restore one that's run down.

if you value your time and add up parts costs it's almost always better to buy a finished car. my most recent 951 was less than $4k, so i know what you mean, but you have to know when to throw in the towel. here's where I'm at, but i started with a nice engine and straight body

I would! Did you install yourself, or did they do it?
