Default Sunroof question

Just a question, i have a sunroof on my car (like everyone else)

The question i have is , do those rear arms that prop out to open the sunroof attach to the sunroof itself? Mine doesn't attach to the sunroof so they retract all the way in and leave the sunroof bobbing up and down when i close my door. Is that normal?

I was wondering if the flapping of the sunroof was due to the hinges up front cos those on my car are busted.

The lift arms do not attach to the roof. However, your sunroom motor is running for too long and retracting the arms past the sweet spot where they hold down the roof. Take a look at the Sunroof links under the Body section of the Shop Manual on Clarks Garage for the fix, link below.

Good luck, it's not a difficult procedure but kind of a pain, especially if you have any kind of roll or harness bar installed.

You'll want to be a little careful driving at highway speeds or greater. I seem to recall hearing / reading of a few lost sunroofs over the years.

I stripped my sunroof gears once and had the arms stuck all the way back while on vacation several hundred miles from home. Ended up using string tied around something at the back edge of the sunroof panel and the seat rails. Total pain in the *** but worked to hold the roof down and I knew it wasn't going anywhere. After the third time replacing gears and having a harness bar in the car I no longer use the sunroof. Windows down. I have the hardware to change to manual but haven't completed the project. That's more of a weight saving effort and low priority.

Pro tip on a loose sunroof. Make sure both window are open about an inch on the highway. It changes the pressure differential and keeps the roof in place. Even duck tape may not hold it if you don't open the windows.
