It's funny how they think an RX-7 is harder to mod than a 951?
You know how many aftermarket parts they make for RX-7's compared to 951s.
With all those mods on that RX7 I'm suprised he didn't pull more. That 951 gave him some work. Looks like he spent over $5k in mods, and the 951 less than $2000 in mods.

It is harder to mod an RX than a 951. They are not setup to be much faster than stock. I.e. you can change the chips in the 951 and run 15-16 psi with basically no other mods, things will be just fine. On the RX the first step to almost ANY mod is replace fuel pump and injectors, then proceed to next step. Further 5K in mods is nothing on an RX, a 13B-REW will run you over 2 grand and that is a stock one. There is little that can be done with the stock twins, so they usually go in the trash (everyone I have ever pulled apart was in need of new turbos anyway). There are people on this board with 4-5K in mods making 350+ at the wheels.
There may be a lot of parts for RX-7s but they arent cheap either. If you wanted to have a truly fast 3rd gen then you would do a 20B conversion, now that there are a few running.
I bet the 944T that he was chasing was stock or maybe chipped at best. That car may be making 300HP if he is lucky, 90% of those mods are for looks. No real benefit to the FMIC with the stock turbos either.

I had to quote this off that board... cause its funny...
Damn, i've lost a few times..........badly.
I lost to a RUF so badly that I thought I missed the gear. I had to look at my RPM's just to make sure I was going forward.
I got killed from a stop by an all wheel drive Porsche. He laughed at me.
I raced him from 40mph, and hung right there with him. He wasn't laughing anymore. I winked at his wife.

I used to post/lurk that board pretty regularly when I was looking for a car. Almost bought a couple of 3rd gens, but them I wised up and realized I don't like my engine to blow for no reason.
Most, not all, of those guys stories are pretty wild. One guy on there destroyed an Enzo on a track (oval, I believe). Still, they can be made fast, but I'd rather have a 951 any day of the week.

At least they weren't confused about the 951 designation. They had more knowledge of 951s than I have of rx-7s. Not that that means anything. I know they were made by Mazda, and I like the looks of the last (3rd?) generation. Ok, I'm done.

3rd gens are good cars but they suffer from a number of premature failure (I know that seems like an oxymoron). They are damn quick for a stock car. A whole lot of fun to drive to. Unfortunately their values have plummetted while the MkIV Supras continue to rise. You also have to wade through a WHOLE lot a BS on that board.

I am fairly new to this board, I never post as you can see by my post count. I can say that rx7club is a cool board though. I hang out in the first gen section a lot during the day, it is very down to earth and informative.
