I would like Turbo Twist wheels on my 86 951 which wheels/spacers?

I'm running turbo (C4S) wide body solid spoke right now (same size as hollow but 27 lbs heavier all around), 18x11 rears with 285 30 18 (can go 295 with aggressive roles fender) with the 86 944 rear offset and the 8.5x18 front with 245 25 18 with late offset and 7 mm spacers. And the 18" rim and tire combo is just a little smaller in diameter then the stock 16" rims with there 245/45 16 rear tires or 205/55 16 front tire
For the rear I had to grind down the corner balance bolt (sway bar connects to it on the back side). And cut and roll the lip up by the upper torsion bar mount. The back lip of the rim will hit it without spacers. You could use 7mm in the rear on the 86 offset but I like how it's almost flush already. You could also have a machine shop cut off that lip on the back side of the rear rims for more clearance. Leaving about the same material as a phone dial rim has for the lip. It's for adding pound on weights and we use stick on anyways. Wheel dynamics has a write up on the max fit of rims on our cars. Remember the offset can be changed with parts, try to use little as spacer as possible. I can take my 7mm in the front off and run at the track still.

That's some solid info, and I like the fact that you are running without spacers in the rear. I wonder if I could do a 275/35 on that same wheel? I've also been looking at the 993 hollow spoke which is 18x10+40 I think, that would work in the back I doubt it would fit up front even with fender rolling. There is a set for sale locally, but locally is a few hours away. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger though. If I did the 993 18x10 back and 996 18x8 front I wonder how obvious it would be? I know there different, but would it really jump out at you?

They're the same style looking, didn't know they made hollow of the 993 rim of this style. It works just fine and you can use 285 on the 10". The tire will set with the side wall more vertical to match the fronts. You do know how to tell the solid from the hollow right? Just making sure.
The ones I found on eBay are $700 ea and solid spoke.
Solid spoke rims
Hollow spoke rims, get two that are 1" wider for the price of one 18x10. And weigh less. And hold a bigger tire better. And work on the 944 with 86 rear offset.

I'll start looking for wheels this winter as I can stockpile some funds. Is the difference between hollow and solid spoke the fact that it's smooth on the back side?
Of course I just discovered that it looks like my header is cracked so I'll start in on that next. Hopefully I just just get that welded up and not spend too much.

If the rim is flat on the back it's a hollow spoke rim. If it has the two deep grooves it's a solid spoke rim. I do know that the rear 11x18 et 45 will fit the 944 with the 86 offset and some grinding on the corner ballance bolt and cutting and hammering the tabs that stick out by the upper torsion bar mount. And the front rims can be used easily as you just need 24mm spacers for the 86 front offset. Or 7mm to none with the late offset.

I've got some spacers for the front now, so I think I'm in business once I get some wheels. Of course I just discovered my header is cracked so I guess I'll be throwing my money at that instead.

Header problems? I got your back. Nice cheap unit right hear for you. That way you can still get those rims. It has some fixes to it and a long scratch not seen in the photo, but should work better then what you have.

Chuck, I also have an 86' 951 and it came with the 993 turbo twists, 7.5 x 18 ET50 and 10 x 18 ET65 soild spokes. The rears have a 19mm spacers and the front has 7mm spacer. They have been resprayed in black powder coat. I recently set it up with a late offset up front, S2 spindles & hubs, late control arms and late tie rod assemblies. The 7mm spacer up front was a must when i did a Big Brake upgrade "996TT Mono Block Calipers" with cayenne 330mm rotors to make enough clearance between the caliper and inside of the wheel. I just ordered and new set of Victor Innsbruck wheels and tires so my TT wheels will be up for sale on the cheep. tires are at least 1/2 tread left and sized at 225 R40 18 and 255 R35 18 BF Goodrich Comp sport 2's. The wheels are not prefect with some slight curb rash on one or two wheels, but run true and straight.

Well, I just blew my money on headers, but I would be interested when you go to sell your wheels what you want for them. Drop me a line when you get to that point.

When you get them in, give some serious thought to wrapping them. Helps keep the temps down under the hood, it's extra protection for everything around it (and the fuel lines above it), and it will keep the exhaust gases hotter, which *supposedly* makes them circulate faster and helps with spoolup. I still just have the K26/6 which already spools up really fast, so I can't personally confirm that.

Sounds Good. I also have some 86' 951 parts I've removed due to some upgrades. ie 26K/#26, spindles/hubs/cross drilled rotors, 5P open diff Trans, KYB rear shocks. All in great working order. I'm thinking $400.00 for the 993 Turbo Twists with or with out tires.
