Default heat shield in front of oil filter?

I'm installing a set of SFR stg2 headers, and the factory heat shield no longer fits.

I'm looking for options. The headers are ceramic coated, but I still think I would like some physical barrier. any thoughts besides getting some steel and fabing up a replacement?

We need pictures of those headers. Did you get them new from SFR recently?

Can you modify the existing shield or just no way? What else has to change with those headers in place? (I've been mulling them for years....)

I haven't used those heat sheilds in years. No differences that I've seen besides more space under the hood. I was worried to when I thought about the heat from the exhaust being so close but I didn't notice any temp changes without it. The external oil cooler really must do its job. Especially if you use a Lindsey 3 times one.

Here is a pic of them installed. I do have a massive oil cooler installed but am worried about heat in the oil filter and the lines to the oil cooler

I bought the headers used here on rennlist. Now have a precision 6466 t4 and 3" down pipe in the way

I'm the same. Big front oil cooler, no heat shield, no oil temp issues.

While I have not had that heat shield in years. And after you mentioned it I got to thinking about possible problems. The big down side is heat to the seal on the bottom of the filter and deterioration of the seal from heat cycling. A failed seal on the filter led to the fire I had. While the fire wasn't catastrophic it did lead to me chasing fire related failures for about 6 months.

If you do not run a shield I would change the filter out on a regular basis as a precaution.

ya bob, I was thinking about your fire. I think I will fab something up specifically to block the oil filter

Best guess at this point is that there was metal left in the block from machining. The bearings (after discovery of metal and a full tear down) were pretty chewed up.

I did a full clean/rebuild of the block. Will hopefully test for oil pressure this weekend

You don't need those silly headers. Just sell them to me and I'll sell you the propper factory setup. I'll even trade staight across if you would like. Turbo as well, you should run a stock one and let me buy your new one on the way. Or trade straight across. You just think about this good deal I'm willing to offer you before making any final decisions. Don't listen to EVERYONE else claiming that's not a fair trade. Look it's not there deal, they should just stay out (there jelious I came up with this great deal first). And if you act on this awesome deal now I'll trade you two factory setups for your one custom setup. Some of the factory units have some custom areas (stretch marks) to them. I should charge more in this trade for that custom work, but I'll let it slide.
