SFR Stage 1 Exhaust Manifolds
Anyone running these? How are they? I have a nicely crack 1-4 header and was thinking of going with them given you can buy the 304 variety ( both 2-3 and 1-4) headers for the same price as _ONE_ 1-4 header from the factory... Any other options have I?
Cheers and thanks,
Sach

Well Mr. Yoda,
I struggled with the header situation for a while and finally sent Tim my money. All I can say is that boy has skills. The quality of the wields is excellent and the fit of the headers is perfect. The only "issue" i have so far is that the headers glow red hot even when just idling. I plan on wrapping them in some thermal wrap next time I have them out though.
Also he said they would take 1-1.5 weeks to complete and they 1.2 weeks. Well imagine that a tuner delivering when he says.
I do highly recommend them.

I have a set and they are jet hot coated. I haven't started the car yet so i dont know how they work. However a very quality peace with a lifetime warranty.

Get the 321 Stainless version. If you get the 304 version, they will probably crack again (just like the stainless factory headers).
I've got the stage 2, 321 version, and no problems.... and like JohnE said... they glow read hot. In all fairness... so do the factory headers, you just can't always see it because of the outter heat sheild. On the dyno, the factory headers and the factory cross over pipe glow cherry red, even through the double wall.
304 is better for the rest of the exhaust system, after the turbo since the heat there is much less.

The diff. in weld performance in the 304 and 321 grades is the Ti stabilization of the 321. That does help with the heat affected zone of the weld in the cold end. Also The 321 has 1% more Ni and 1% less Cr than the 321 with better sag resistance. The Ti additon plus the extra Ni add to the cost.
The 304 can fail from IG corrosion in the heat affected especially in the colder end of the exhaust. If you spec a 304L it will be better but still not as good as a 321 in the cold section. If the area is hot enough there is less chance of a condensation issue to deal with.
Tim's price extra for his 321 parts is not out of line. I'd buy the 321.
