Default Whistling Mirrrors!

This has bugged me since I got the car almost 2 years ago!

I've noticed quite a bit of wind noice from the side mirrors - am I the only one that has this? When I fold em back the sound is gone... I know quite a few people switch to 968 mirrors, is this why? It just seems so stupid that engineers could overlook something so trivial and annoying!

Anyways, my question is this: do the mirror bra things reduce this noice? I don't have the money right now to buy a set of mirrors, have them painted, and install em. Any other suggestions? This is one of the few things on this car that I think could have been fixed so easily with a few cheap design changes. Doesn't help that I live in socal and the AC is out. :/

Thanks!

There is a black plastic cap that covers the hex screw you use to remove the mirror. They where missing.
Believe it or not, this fixed the whistle I used to get from my mirrors.

It wont eliminate the wind noise though, those mirrors are not exactly aerodynamic.

My mirrors have a triangular shaped plastic "gasket" where the mirror folds.. I was told not all cars have it.. I think it was added to stop the whistle. Try taping the crease to see if that is the source.

Do you have a picture of that gasket?

my flags are silent all the way up to 165mph...

the sunroof makes most of the noise, in my car... air getting literally sucked out from around the sunroof seals...

People get the 968 mirrors for looks more than anything else.

I've read somewhere (excellence or panorama) that the flag mirrors can reduce top speed by as much as 3mph. That's pretty amazing when you think about it.

there is supposed to be a clear plastic triangle piece where the mirror folds to reduce wind noise, how i dont know, but mine didnt have it so i put them on and it solved the wind noise, i got it from porsche and it was cheap, try the tape in the gap first suggestion before you attempt to fix this noise, the flag mirrors are a bitch to put back together if you buy the plastic piece due to the spring that need to be compressed to bring to 2 flag mirror pieces back together, i did it but boy was it annoying, let us know if the tape fixes it first

I bought some black (my car is black) pinstriping, cut it and applied it over the crease. The problem is solved, and you can't see it.

Wow! They were a lot cheaper 20 years ago. I've used everything from tape to silicone sealer in the gap. I like the idea of the pinstriping. Tape works well and as someone used to say, "It's only temporary unless it works."
