Default Angle of positive lead on alternator in non-AC position?

Can anyone describe how the positive lead is clocked on the connecting stud on the alternator in the non-ac position. I ditched the AC and bough a stock non-ac bracket. I find it hard to twist the cable to get it to exit the cooling duct in the proper location.

Also. Is it normal to need a new positive cable to the starter? I worry my DIY cable copied from the stock cable is to short.
