Hey guys, its been a long time but im in the market for another 951. You might remember my heart breaking rod bearing story on my '87... https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...ore-951-a.html anyways, went to a 968 for 5 years and sold that about 6 months ago to another member here who is doing a turbo conversion! https://rennlist.com/forums/968-foru...eymans-na.html
pretty cool stuff.
Anyways, here are some thoughts i have when looking for a new 951:
I want to use this car as a reliable almost daily driver.
tasteful mods are welcome. however if the car is stock i would most likely leave it that way.
Im open to any 951 thats in really good shape cosmetically and has to be driveable mechanically. Id prefer very good condition mechanically as well but I know my way around these things and isnt a must.
Id prefer late offset but would buy on condition rather than year alone.
I really like the idea of a turbo S or '89 model but again, this would be based on condition rather than year.
open to all color combinations/wheels.
Preference given to models with full options such as full leather, LSD etc. but not a deal breaker.
Im willing to ship/drive the car back to NC but of course local would be preferable.
maintenance is of course important and i would pay a premium for big ticket items that can be proved but can just as easily save money on purchase and do the maintenance myself for peace of mind.
Might think of a few more but thats what ive got at the moment. Im not breaking any new ground with these preferences but thought id share nonetheless. Hopefully my next car is out there somewhere! Thanks guys!

hey, thanks for responding! If a car ticks my boxes as far as options etc than im willing to spend what its worth. I would love a good deal but im not going to low ball anyone either. Im not against cars that dont match my preferences if they are in good condition and have some redeeming qualities but the price would have to reflect that which may not be fair to the seller.
im hesitant to put a number to my budget because i could spend a decent amount to get exactly what i want, or failing that, settle for a car in good condition for cheaper. I hope that helps.

I have a black 86, tons of bolt on mods but not tracked or abused
Adult professional driven, PCA member
Black, Linen interior 81K miles
Numerous Lindsey Upgrades: full exhaust, 3" plus headers, maf, full Lindsey intake, stage I intercooler
Kokeln street turbo
Carrera GT rear spoiler, otherwise stock exterior with phone dials
Blew a headgasket, so new head gasket, did the rod bearings, timing belt, etc.
Runs like a top
My company is relocating me to Miami so I am just starting to think about selling as I don't want to ship the car that far, I am in North Jersey

Couldn't stay away... I understand. 951s are still the best.
Looks like some good options are presenting themselves. Locally there are a few nice ones out here as well. Portland is a good town to buy cars from, interesting selections. I have a friend with an 88 S, a Silberrosa car that he has been trying to walk away from for a while... but that's in Portland.
You have to inspect it before you buy. I know that cause I've bought cars at a distance without an inspection. But I got really lucky buying from you... seriously, no complaints at all, just making a point. Also, there were very limited numbers of 968's for sale back then, as there are now. 951's are then still readily available yet are so complicated that to really buy a used one, to have as a reliable driver day 1, you go with the guy who is PCA and all records, or you get an average one.
Thats my advice to you, Chris.

I am trying to convince myself to sell my 951. 89' black on black All stock with the exception on M-tune and 18" turbo twist wheels. I have the original wheels with tires and all factory parts. just turned 34k miles with all service records. Timing belt done 1500 miles ago along with a full service.
