Default Third Time's The Charm - Latest 951 Project

So I have been on the hunt for a 951 for the last few months, and I was searching for a very specific car, I waned it to be:

- 1986
- Alpine White Exterior
- Black or Tan Interior
- Fuchs
- Sport Seats
- LSD
- Very Original
- Low Mileage

While my search was limiting me to very few offerings, I was willing to travel far and wide to pickup the right car, and I figured I would find the perfect car eventually. Searching classifieds and forums had me lurking on Rennlist more than I had been, and a few weeks ago I clicked on a post for a 951 for sale. While it didn't meet many of requirements, it was an 86, had black sport seats, and a LSD, I was still interested. The biggest drawback, it was red. I don't have anything against red 951 but I have had two in the past and just wanted something different.

But I kept coming back to look at the post, kept reading the description, kept looking at the pictures, and in the end the temptation proved to be too strong and a few emails and phone calls later a deal had been struck. In the end it was the engine that swayed me to make an offer, one doesn't often get the opportunity to pick up a low mileage 2.7L (Darton MID Sleeves, 104mm pistons), TEC.S stand alone, TO4E, that had been built by Chris White.

The car seems to have a ton of potential, the TEC system needs to be dialed in a bit more, the suspension needs to be replaced, and the paint needs some love, but it is going to be a great platform my latest 951 project.

Sam,

This should be a fun project, even if I have no idea what direction to take it. There are only three things I know for sure, I am going to properly tune the motor, I am selling the replica twists, and I am deleting the rear window wiper (minor, but I think it is the only thing all my 944s have had in common).

Other than those three items I need to avoid spending money on this car until I finish my other project car. I have a E30 sitting on jackstands in the the garage waiting on a motor swap. A fun little project in its own right, 2.5L 12V to 2.8L.

Ian looks very nice, I am jealous of the steering wheel.

Please let me know if you need any help. I am shooting you a pm now.

Btw, great looking e-30 and looks like a great car as well.

Depending on the direction I go with the car, the steering wheel may be available. I had a momo prototipo in a past 951 and I may want to go that way again.

Please shoot me a pm or e-mail me if you decide to let it go. I am not sure if I could swing it now due to a major bathroom demo project, but I am very interested in it.

Good find! I think I remember you from years ago when I was pretty active around here. I've been considering getting back into the 944 world myself.

Michael and Doug, you should both get back in the game, we need some more of the old guard around these forums.

Welcome back to the fold. It looks like a great place to start your next project.

I recently installed a complete Ground Control system front and rear and deleted the t-bars. The elephant racing spring plate bushings help out a lot too. There are a lot of options for suspension, so take your time in choosing.

Great snag. Think you're up for another chassis swap?
