It's all good. Nobody is questioning your intentions from what I see. It's probably a good idea to do that.

The reason I asked is because in the 90's (when I was a little more up on things), chipping was new and it seemed like lots of HG's suffered from it, or so everyone thought. There was some real debate on whether it was better to upgrade the HG or whether blowing them was indicating an imbalance in the set of mods.

However, that's been 20 years, so I really didn't know whether the chips are better, the HG's have been improved, things are better balanced, or what.

Sorry if you felt raked over it. I figure it's best to look into as many opinions as possible and then make up your own mind....or go with a consensus when you have one.

I snapped some pictures today at the inlaws' farm in central Kansas. It's India/Guards Red with Brown/Tan interior. The paint needs a good going over and some minor touch ups, but nothing extreme. The interior is generally in nice condition, outside of I've worn through the driver's side seat getting in/out over the years.

When I started shopping for a Porsche, I wanted anything but red and never would have gone for a brown interior. However, I was located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the time. I took the only 951 that showed up that entire summer of shopping. Interestingly, I bought it from a small town Ford dealership nearby; a dealership that had 70% F-series pickups. Apparently, the owner went to Florida, California, or Texas every year and bought 2-3 Porsches and brought them back, as more of a side than anything else. (I think he drove one every year before selling it.)

rtites, It's all good. I have owned my 951 for about 12 yrs when I first bought it I was up on the mods which the only real add on "minus the turbo" then was authority chip set. After doing some delete kit from Lindsey Racing and a few other things I was on my way to the track and had a small engine fire. Since then it has been parked and I am in the process of getting it on the road again. Lucky for us, they are doing some amazing things now with the hybrid stroker build, rouge tuning, refresh 951's build with the other things he is doing, etc. there was not so many options as we have now. BTW I really like the red with tan, mine is black with tan. Anyway my point is I am also looking at all the new options we have and I should of done more research per application of the HQ before saying anything. either way, I Just have one more thing to say "when you get it back together and you blow your hg don't say I didn't warn you!" Totally kidding. I thought I would bring some humor. I am sure your car will be excellent, have fun with it!

Gave my son his first lesson with the manual today. He did a great job, but I still had to grin and bear the jumping, popped clutches, etc. I wish I had a manual around with a bit American V8 to teach him.

Welcome Ross! Good job tackling the HG and having a successful 200 mile trip. You're well on your way to being a pro

Car looks great, too. Funny you wound up with the one color you didn't want... I did too. When I was shopping I said, "Anything but black". Shopped for years. And of course, when I finally pulled the trigger on one... it was black. *sigh*

Things have definitely changed on the electronics front in 14 years. Personally, I'd *strongly* recommend the stuff from Rogue Tuning. His AFM chips are priced in the same range as everyone else's, but the improvement in drivability over stock is HUGE.

Clarification: I didn't do the HG. RennsportKC did the work: PorscheDoc above.

The most involved things I've done have been steering rack and control arms, 20 years ago. Right now, I'm just starting to chase electric gremlins.

I pulled the blower resistor pack yesterday, hit it with contact cleaner, and reinstalled it in hopes of getting the blower control to work correctly. No go though. It still is either nothing or full fan. I'll play with the relay next.

After that, it's to the hatch control and the sun roof, and then an updated radio! Seriously, this one has been in there since I bought it.

I've looked over the Rogue Tuning site a fair amount and am very intrigued by it. I really don't 100% understand what this would be doing. I get that's it's an improvement and I can really see putting the ECU to replace the aging DME in a car.

Really, I'm pretty overwhelmed by all the choices on upgrades, updates, etc. on the market. It's very easy to spend a lot of money in a hurry and I'm concerned that without a well developed plan in advance, that a lot of that money won't really achieve anything. I'll keep reading, and I'm not ready for that anyway. Right now, I'm leaning towards a chip, manual boost, and exhaust.

Of course, I reserve the right to change my mind before I start ordering things!

If you look at the top of the threads page, you will see write ups the scroll to simple modification and it is very clear what the maf conversion does along with most other possible questions about rogue items such as m-tune A-tune etc.

Thanks. I need a faceplam icon, as I've been doing the classic skipping over the stickied threads at the top of the forum. I've gone back pages reading things, but it's a little hard to navigate through the various opinions at times.
