Too bad I just put a MAF on mine, or I might have considered sell it to you... oh well, I imagine you shouldn't have too hard a time finding one for sale.

Regards,

If you are looking always look for a mechanic that can inspect the car before you buy. I almost got a 87 951 before I found my 89 951. The 87 was PERFECT cosmetically but was hanging on for deal life everywhere else. The mechanic said the car was going to need 3-4K in work to be a dependable driver. The 89 I bought needs paint and a few interior items fixed but drives great and is a S to boot. Shop around and when you find what you want get it inspected or it might nip ya in the pocketbook if you don't.

I hope you're good with either bodywork or mechanical work. For that amount it will hard to find a nice driver that doesn't need $5000 in repairs. If you are good at either you are set and playing this the right way. If not, you may want to save up some more or go with a nice NA. Figure about $8-10k for a decent 951.

Im in Memphis if you need a set of eyes to look at it and I know many local Mechanics that can do a pre inspection for you as well.

Clayton, what is the word on Memphis Motorwerks about quality and service? A new owner that I know was asking me about their head work...any comments or Memphis hear-say?

I have not dealt with them in a few years but one of the owners, Mike Wilkes, was my first PCA driving school instructor in 1993 I do know that if Leo (I think that was his name) is still there their headwork will be top notch ! I saw many sets of his on 911s and 944s around town and they were fast cars many were used in PCA Club racing. I use a independent Mechanic to work on my car so my dealings with them are very limited. I will say everything I have seen that they do on their PCA Racing cars is top notch but I have been out of the scene for a few years so things might have changed.

Hope that info helps....

$6k is going to buy you a headache . Just save up for a while and get something in better shape.

man, that's what everyone's telling me...i'm pretty confused on what to buy. either a 944 na or a 951. i would love to buy a 951, but i can't seem to find the right one. and all the 944 na's don't seem appealing.

very confused...

I personally would never be satisified with the power of the n/a so I would rather save up some more. $8k-$8.5k should be enough to find one in pretty good shape that needs very minimal (cheap & easy) things replaced.

If that's your total budget, you might want to save some more (sorry to repeat what everyone's saying). Most likely you will be spending money to fix it up right after you get it, and if you don't have any you may end up SOL.

so i was planning on spending 6k for car, 2k for insurance, and 2k just in case.
