I arrived back in DC this morning an replaced the battery and DME relay. The car cranks endlessly without catching. The tachometer needle has no movement whatsoever while cranking. Fuel pressure is 44 lbs ( have a gauge for monitoring).

As I understand it, the lack of tach action could have many causes. Speed and Reference sensors, DME, other. Any advice on the best place to start troubleshooting?

Start with the sensors, wiggle the connections of both sensors and make sure they didn't unplug. May need to replace

Lack of tach bounce almost ALWAYS means speed and ref sensor harness problems. Best bet it to replace both sensors and get the LR ref harness replacement, then put it in. It was bound to happen at some point. If you wiggle them, and it starts, you are just getting temporarily lucky. Eventually, wiggling won't work, and you'll be stuck somewhere.

The LR kit is about $105. The electric system is definitely been this car's weak point. Half the wire has already been replaced with LR products. The Speed and Reference sensor components were not changed. Both sensors were replaced 2 years ago while looking for a different electrical problem (replaced good sensors). I will order the kit, but it is unlikely that I will be able to replace it in my apartment complex within a 10 day time frame. Thanks for the input. I think we are on the right track.

Peel back the rubber boots and take a look. You might be able to patch them up a bit for a temporary fix...

This. Jiggle both sides - sensor and harness.

He has new sensors guys. Seattle, just focus on the harness, where it connects to the sensors, back. I managed to hard wire mine together for awhile, until I could do a proper fix. It will fail on you at some point, but you can get some mileage out of it, between now and then.

Started on first turn of the key. I jiggled the wires near the sensors and the car started immediately.

Thanks for the help!

Glad to hear it. Now don't do what I did, and wait to fix it properly, until it stops working in the 95* heat of Summer, when you are sick as a dog. lol
