There are some covers on ebay. That is what I ended up doing when trying to find rear burgundy panels. Cut out the area using the covers as a template, drill holes and attach. Hope this helps.

I'd be going with Apline Type-S 6x9 speakers, which I'm pretty sure will fit, but I'd have to double-check.
I'm looking for the factory door panels for a clean look, I'd rather source different speakers than make my own panels.

wouldn't use alpine speakers. junk.. Alpine do really good amplifiers though.
6x9 in the front doors in the factory 5x7 location isn't a great idea.
Soundstream have 5x7 speakers.
you'll need to make a spacer out of MDF to get it to fit but sounds great!

On the contrary, I've heard Alpine speakers that blow others out of the water.
And I'm talking about rear speakers, I'm not sure why you brought up fronts. 6x9 is the proper size for the back, they will fit in any 1987+ IIRC

Oh sorry, i read front door and thought that for some reason.
It's all about the enclosure, amplifier & tuning for the way they sound.
Still, I'd search for another brand, with silk tweeters. silk tweeters don't sound as sharp and have a much nicer sound.
For examplethe JL Audio C2-690tx will work nice straight from the deck
If you're running of an amplifier get a nice midrange speaker as these cars lack in midrange bass. like these http://soundstream.com/store/car-aud...s/sme-694.html
and put the front in a bit of a highpass to knock out the mid bass from the front.
Remmember, Loud doesn't mean sounds good.

That's why I'm drawn to the Alpine's, I think they have good mid-range bass.
I have a 4-channel speaker amp that is hooked up to my rear 6x9 speakers right now (which even makes those Alpine's sound okay)

In reality, midbass or any bass is more the enclosure than driver. any driver will give you midbass. but how clean is it. and how much will it give you.
Fair enough if you've already got the speakers, but if you're buying new ones. i'd be looking at other options.

I haven't made a final decision on speakers as of yet.
There is a (local) audio shop near me that does pretty good work, and they seem to favor Memphis Audio for good, clean sound.
But I need the grilles first, if I'm going to tear out the rear windows to get at the speakers.
I'd be fine with black panels, I can always dye them (or try to).

You don't need to remove the window to get to the speaker. just gently remove the rubber surround.
I don't hear much of menphis audio as it's not huge in australia.
I'm not sure on your budget, but if i where to get 6x9s
I'd probably buy these.

I'm worried about damaging the rubber surround, or not getting it to align properly upon re-install, so I'm going to remove the windows. I'm not a fan of short-cuts.
I believe that 5x7 was the stock size for most 944's, however any 1987+ IIRC can accomodate 6x9. Earlier years require cutting into the body panels to make them fit.
