Default idle stabilizing valve - shorted b and c - idles perfect.

To refresh your memory........ my cars idle was fluctuating up and down....and some times would go as low as to want to stall.

When I short b&c in the test plug it disables the idle valve and the idle stays ~900 rpm............. if I pull the short out the 700-1100 rpm bouncing returns!

Question:

1. Can the car be run with b&c shorted?

2. If disabled the idle valve and my idle is perfect. The assumption must be a faulty idle valve?.......... any other possibilities? I don't want to replace the valve to only find out the problem was else where?

Thanks

Dirty/Faulty idle stabilizer is the only culprit as far as I know.

You can run the car with the idle stabilizer disabled (B&C shorted), but you will lose the higher idle when the engine is cold and your idle will dip significantly when you turn on the AC. Also idle may dip a bit when you crank the wheel when stopped if your car has powersteering (not that you want to be doing that in the first place).

adrial.......

it has had a cold start (low idle problem) for some time............ The valve probably has been slowly going and finally went.............. I will run with b and c shorted to make sure the problem does not reappear and indicate some other problem...

I have a valve on order.

I will replace it in a couple of weeks after I return from Disneyworld.....

Thanks for your help

Also If B-C are shorted, it will disable closed loop. I forgot to remove mine
after setting the idle and the AFM showed the car wasnt in closed loop.
