I'm quite tall (6' 2") but unlike others my height is not so much in the legs as in the torso and neck. I have my car seat adjustment all the way down and I have approx. less than an inch clearance with the roof. I can't even fit in there with a helmet. But I'd like to eventually participate in DE's and some club races.

Are race seats anchored lower?

Can the stock seat be lowered with some special rails?

Any info will be appreciated.

A race seat will lower you nicely, sliding rails only add height, so you'll have to shop carefully or give up sliders. A race seat bolted into a solid bracket will be the lowest.

I am 6'5" myself. During Racers Education I had stock seat in my car, and I had to angle the back of the seat quite some way back to clear the ceiling.

With true race seat, your seat can go lower. In fact I almost sit on the floor, there is only a few mm left. Also there is less padding in a race seat and the roof lining has been removed. All in all you gain as much as 2" .

But still I have to angle the seat it to fit. No problem with a 3 inch hub on the steering wheel.

The Saratoga top will also give you an additional 0.5" clearance as well. Depending upon the race seat you get, 3" of extra clerance is possible. I had to get brackets to raise my seat back to stock position. You guys ever noticed in Magnum PI that the roof was always off on the Ferrari?

Thanks for the info. That's what I had figured. I may eventually get race seats.
