Question 993tt Purchase

Hey guys, I'm struggling with a possible purchase of a 96 993tt knowing I'll then have to sell a piece of my soul, my modded 951 which I've had since 1989. I've pretty much replaced every part of it, usually with more robust parts. Huntley stage II BB turbo, IV MAF/ARC2/coilovers/big reds/B&W 94 911T type 17 inch wheels 330rwhp 110k miles. I've DEed it once at Mid-Ohio at it was orgasmic.
The 993 has autothority II mods, Nokia sound ,Techart exhaust and is said to be 569hp. 33k miles Out of state so I have to go see it but said to be beautiful by independent Porsche dealer. Will it quickly become the replacer or what do you think? Sorry for long stuff

Maybe it is time to move on to something else and give it a try. Drive it first before you decide though....993 TT is quite a machine

The 993TT is a great car. However, I'll be concerned about the HP claim.. Make sure the car has not been abused, as the maintenance could be VERY expensive...

I believe valve train issues are starting to pop up in the 993 turbos. I'm sure you would get a leak down test down with a purchase like that though ..... I'd jump on it if you can swing it. I"m a jealous guy.

I would suggest you give Stephan Kaspar a call at Imagine Auto a call... he specializes in turbo 911's and knows how to properly get major hp out of them. He'd be able to give you a LOT of pointers on what to watch out for. His number is 913-310-9927.

No financial interest in referring you, but he is a friend of mine, so I am biased... take it for what its worth, but he seriously knows his stuff.

Regards,

In my experience there is not much in the way of maintenance on these cars. Change the oil and filter and drive it. No valve adjustments, nothing to fiddle with.

One thing I would be VERY wary of is these cars have a tendency to LIFT the cylinder heads on hard accel on boost. That sound vaguely familiar to anyone? I have seen more than one, the last one was a BONE stock car.

I'm sure I can think of something else, it's just too late for me.....

Oh BTW, the obvious is breaking stuff gets expensive quicker than that car. We know the owner at APE. If you PM info about the current owner I can ask Ali about it tomorrow.

Hope you are not a big guy. Driving position is awful comparing to 951. Off set pedals too! Not to mention not looking through the windshield but wearing it - as a pair of spectacles!

Great car but as 951 is adopted to you 993 you need to adopt to.

You had your 951 for a long time. You might love that car more then you think but won't realize this until you lose it. Keep it until you are sure your "next" is a keeper.

I believe fc-racer who was a long time lister did the same thing and he misses his 951-s dearly. I think he actually tried to buy it back but the purchaser would not sell it........ Hang on to both for a while if you can swing it.....then decide!

What is stock boost on 930?? 993 TT, 996TT???

I have always wondered what boost they are running, in stock trim. I know the boost of some of the race models, but not factory stock models.
