My initial thoughts as well, may want to look at konis sight or the instructions.

Alright, took another look at the instructions and mostly just info on force velocity and a bunch of specs. Under the installation tips all it said is that they can be mounted inverted because the gas is in a separate chamber. I figure the instructions aren't model specific. I found Koni's site pretty difficult to navigate and in fact couldn't even find the 30 series to begin with.

That Koni setup is intended to mount inverted.

Jeff, after looking at the picture, looks like our guys tie wrapped the spacers onto the wrong end of the shock...just put them on the other end and slide that up into the upper shock mount on the car. Sorry about that.

Aha, now its coming together nicely!

But with the transmission cooler side, looks like we're going to have some clearance issues. So I searched and found that it either the loops need to be moved on top of the bracket instead of the bottom of it or it can be carefully bent. I'm thinking about bending it, but how careful will I need to be? Can it be bent with just my hand pushing against it or is there a special tool combo technique that I should use?

I'm on the homestretch!

Alright, I just pushed those lines out of the way and got those suckers in. Now just the sway bar and then CV joint rebuild to go!

Wow. I definitely should have just bought new VW axles. The price of new ones probably matched the time it took me to regrease the old ones (okay I'm slow (or maybe my time is just worth a lot )) and now I'm still stuck with worn out components and will have to buy new ones in the long run anyway. Oh well. Putting them in tomorrow and then off for an alignment Friday!

At least you now *know* what you have!

Beware of "remanufactured" axles - they've done what you've just done... even if there's wear pitting, they'll grease them and send them out. I only use new CV joints.
