Default Painted my wheels! (pics)

Just finished painting my wheels.

Procedure:
1. Clean wheels
2. Remove from car
3. Remove old finish (sanding, etc.)
4. Tape and cover tire
5. Spray primer coat (X2)
6. Spray paint (X2, Dupli-Color Silver Metallic)
7. Spray Clear Coat (X2, Dupli-Color Clear)

I also hand painted the center caps

Here's another photo of the car:

Nice job finish. You may find that the spray paint is to soft. I did this once on my previous wheels and the brake dust just ate into paint - non cleanable. I had my next set of wheels professionally sprayed and lacquer coated then oven baked - now it's OK.

SimonK,

Thanks for the info. But you should have seen them before, the finish was actually flaking off, so this is actually a big improvement. This little project kept me and my boys occupied all weekend. We're all proud of our work. Anyway, I'm planning on having the car repainted next year and I'll either have the PD's professionally refinished then or I may buy some new wheels.

Try coating the wheels with a sealant like Klasse or Zaino, and this will prevent the brake dust from messin' up your wheels. Or you can just wax them regularly.

I love late offset phone dials. Very nice job !

BTW, what spacer sizes do you use to fit late offset rims, your car being an '86 ?

Hate to admit my ignorance but...I didn't know these were late offset. How can you tell from the picture?

But that reminds me! On the front hubs there were 2 spacer rings but I did not notice any on the back. Maybe I can take pictures later on to show you.

Looks good. I have the original dials that came with the car and they are in crappy shape. Was thinking of doing the same and throwing some track tires on them. Good job.
