Here you go:

Even with sub 10-sec 1/4-mile @ 130mph times, Eddie would still be smoked by a lot of stock off-the-showroom-floor 1-liter+ bikes..

If anyone is interested, here's some performance figures for motorcycles:

http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/146_perf_nums/

Note that the role on times are usually done in the top gear of the bike and aren't indicative of the fastest the bike could do 60-80 in say 2nd or 3rd gear.

Some of the most interesting times are:
ZX-12R ('01) 9.95 @ 144.40
GSX-R1000 ('02) 9.92 @ 144.96
GSX1300R Hayabusa ('99) 9.97 @ 144.80

Sub 10 second bikes in stock trim. What has the world come to?

Those times in sport rider are old news...

Pick up the newest cycle world. Yes, the rider is insanely good, but a mostly stock (geared and strapped) hayabusa ran a 9.471@147.56 and the ZX12 did a 9.549@146.77.

To whomever had the 9 second car that could find a bike that could beat him in teh early 90s didnt look too hard. I was running around at that time frame on a sprayed GSXR1100 and my riding partners had sprayed a CBR600F2 and a sprayed ZX11.

On the street races if you couldnt turn high 9s where I live (Colorado which sucks for power) you better not show up for a street race with a bike. To put these times in perspective, a C5 vette here runs about a low 15 stock.

A 500hp (lets assume rwhp) 944T makes about 6lbs/hp. A most stock GSXR1000 makes (with rider) 3.7lbs/hp.

Do the math.

Go run some bikes. They will pull so hard uptoo 160, even if you can catch the on teh top, it woudl take you 5 miles to do so.

And that 70mph roll-on crap. Lets just say it this way on a hayabusa. The hayabusa is still in 1st gear with 5 more to go.....

Default street vs track

There is a HUGE difference between what a car can run at the track and then on the street compared to the differences with bikes.
Back then , one of the bike mag's did a test on 8 - 10 sec bikes( upgraded to stock ).
They first took I think 4 bikes, I cannot of course be sure which bikes now. They ran the bikes first at their local drag strip. The best ran something like an 8.70 and the slowest was near 10.50. Next they took them out to the street where they had a 'drag strip' setup. The 8.70 bike was from what I remember almost 9.70 , and the slowest from 10.50 to maybe 11.30. Basically what the article was showing was that roughly 1 sec was lost on the street compared to the track. I raced in the Philly area, and there were many many extremely fast bikes here. I never ran side by side at the track against some of em, but their times told the story. They were faster. On the street however, once I got them off the line, there was no catching up.
Before you say it, yes I ran a computer in my car to tell me what I was running on the street. They were not perfect, as I am sure they still are not, but gave me a very close idea as to what my times were compared to what I ran at the track. I spent more time dialing the suspension up for the street then the track, I was not much into the track scene. I prefered to be on the street

Again, this is not about a Porsche so it is so off subject, but when I am called out to explain, I feel I should. I prob shouldnt have even replied in the first place

Dana, et all,

I wrote that a 1 litre will obviously pull me. The reality, I've found, is they believe I'm back in another zip code, look back, no doubbt lift and are surprised to see me alongside and then going buy. Absolutely no squabble, 500 on up will dust me in a 1/4. From 80 mph on up I've not had problems with 600's. The most recent engagement w/a 1 litre was me allowing him to get the drop. He was gone. Even if he didn't get the drop, he was gone. But I'm alot closer than they expect. When he looked back, he slowed, tha's when I went by. I realize factory bikes are over 150 mph in the 1/4. Out of 3 runs my best was 131. No match. No doubt I've not met w/the fastest 600 w/the best rider. Maybe they shift early cause it's easy pickins. Don't know. Anybody ever drive/ride on the road from Mt. Hamilton to Livermore on a Sunday morning. I've had many a bike give me thumbs up. I would not pass due to danger. I won't push them too much for the same. Just so you know, I think Valentino Rossi is far more than a legend. He does not ride. He controls his bike in a fashion I've not seen in many moons, if ever. Don't get on this Rossi thing, G/P bike races were not televised when Kenny, Freddie, Kevin, Wayne, etc. rode. I did not see enough of Doohan. Saw Kenny @ Seca. Wheelstands in the turns. He schooled the Europeans on how to ride. Way ahead of his time.
