Humbled by a sport bike...

Top Gear in UK did a TV program settling who is fastest car or a bike.
They got a top biker and a top driver - sorry, forgot their names to settle it on track with some straights and some twisters.
The bike was Fireblade I think and the car was Porsche 996.
Bike lost. Bike killed Porsche on straights but got killed in corners.
Porsche won by a narrow margin - Biker had his knees intact - just...

From time to time I'll tangle with bikes on the fwy. A brave rider on a 1 litre will obviously pull me to an extent. However, when they look back for me, I'm passing them. The 600's are no problem. If I get the drop on a 1 litre it's prety tough for them to catch up. On the way to Willow springs, a couple of Ninjas were going to pass me when traffic cleared. I watched the one downshift and didn't see him again until Willow Springs. He said he was going tom blow by me, but I was gone.

Check out this video and then get back to me about how you can beat sport bikes in a straight line.(Note, it's 14MB)
http://senna.bikepics.com/mpeg/Steve...peed-84sec.mpg
I did some quick calculations with a stopwatch. His first run is 30-130mph and is completed in around 6 seconds. The run after he gets back on the highway is 50/60 - 170mph done in 10 seconds.

I always like the car vs bike thing.
Nw we have the 951 that will almost run with a liter bike and will pull 600s.
Lets cut the crap.
I have the Hayabusa sitting right in front of my 951. I am running 19psi on the 951.
The 951 IS SLOW!!! PERIOD.
A "liter bike" such as a GSXR1000 will give my hayabusa a run for its money.
I will tell ya what. I will find you a race against a liter bike whereever you live. We will see what the outcome is.
How bout this. Anyone in my area wanna play against a busa let me know. Then you can report back what happens in an unbiased manner. report the facts.

Cars v bikes on straights = no way. 600cc will dust you - but not top end!
1000cc = forget it. The only reason they look around or you may get them on the street = you try 160mph on the bike for a period of time on the street. Scary - really scary! Whilst in the Porsche - walk in the park.

GUYS - 86944turbo has a 3.1 (probably $30k+) John Milledge motor that has at least 500 REAL horsepower and aerodynamics that are unlike a flying brick. He is talking about highway speed takeoffs - and I can't honestly believe that a 1000 cc bike could stay even in his area code starting from 70mph.
I think some bike guys get confused about cars when they run against 160 rwhp mustangs.

Want to compare performance , you have to compare apples to apples. Divide how much hp per cubic inch the bike makes to the car. At least it is a good show of each's engineering and bascially will give a bettrr idea of which would win a race if each had same weight.
Off the line...duh, most bikes will smoke most cars. Rolling starts or mid range street starts are a different story, at least with 951's.
I had a guy on a Ninja 900 come up on me in 3rd. I saw him coming so got boost spooled and ready. When he came up on my bumper I nailed it and we stayed dead even to the higher speeds then we both pulled out. Needless to say he was surprised. And notice my sig, I have cat, stock wastegate and therefore only holding about 12 psi. With 15psi, I would have pulled on him. That lets me think a 1000, with 15 psi, I would have been able to stay with or stay close too.

Staight line
Guys, straight line is where I did race all bikes. My Pro Street car was built specifically for that. I admit , the car has been sitting for the last 7 years, lack of interest lately. In early to mid 90's I never found a bike that could stay with a 9.4 sec car on the street.
When I say 9.4, that is driving to the track with street tires, full exhaust system and 94 octane Sunoco fuel. I was running 11-12 psi boost with a 8-71 BDS blower.
I would never even try a half way fast bike with my porsche, except maybe in 'the valley' (very windy roads in my area).
Now down the track, there were some sick fast biikes, but none that rode on the street.
I am not trying to start a war between cars & bikes. I am just stating that there are cars out there that bikes cant keep up with , even in a straight line (on the street). Now on the other hand , while I could eat up these bikes in the straight, I couldnt of course touch them around turns with 33-21.5 tires on the back and a four-link Not too much for handling.
Lets get back to Porsche talk anyway...

Toddk911 one of his 4 spark plugs must of have been down... he,he...
You could have 30psi and 600 bhp and Honda CBR fireblade would still kill you.
You with a 600bhp car = 440 bhp per ton.
Fireblade stock = 886bhp per ton.
Don't race bikes on straights guys you will end up big nose losers.
Let's finish this debate asap otherwise we will become laughing stock of some bike community out there!

Good point Simon
Also, I agree that this will be a back and forth dead issue.
Ok, new topic. When will Porsche start making sport bikes????
I think back in the day they made engines for bikes, but I am not certain.
Or a Porsche turbo sport bike!!!!! Damn, that would be cool.
Anyone else shed some light???

Todd,
That would be pretty sweet. I believe Porsche colaborated with Harley Davidson on the engine for the V-Rod. So they have worked on bike engines. Who knows? It sounds about as far fetched as Porsche producing a SUV, oh wait....
