Default Rear speakers 86' 951

Hey guys, the rear speakers are not connected to the radio... Or at least there is no sound coming from them. So thinking they were blown I took the side panels off (pain in the butt) and they look brand new, like never been used, so I put the new ones in and it is doing the same thing... Any ideas of how to fix/figure out some possible causes? Because I cannot figure out for the life of me. Any advice is greatly appreciated

Some idiot may have cut the wires near the head unit ?
Did you pull the head unit to see what is behind there ?

Yes, the wire amount did seem little, but we figured they spliced the front and the back together... But maybe I'm wrong
