Default MAF Air Intake Isolation Results

Been testing quite a bit of stuff with my Arduino Data Logger and Rogue's Logger and thought I would share some interesting results. I have been measuring temperatures at the IC inlet and outlet and have been amazed at the effectiveness of the stock intercooler. However it is obvious when looking at the data that the heat from the IC is dumped very efficiently into the engine bay. At the end of a short 1 bar run to 5200 rpm I saw immediate jumps in AIT of over 10F.

I decided to make a quick prototype wall to isolate the filter from the engine bay so I could compare results. I know I am not the first to do this (LR sells a "MAF Trap"). The AIT results of two comparable runs, one without the wall (green) and one with (blue) are shown below. The wall was pretty crude but I am encourages to build a better one.

Good R&D - very cool!

Cheers,

Do you consider isolating the MAF tree itself with a reflective aluminium tape ?

The air is moving pretty fast through the maf, I do not think it would buy you much. Also, the M Tune is inherently thermally insulated as it is constructed from non-metallic materials.

thats also the reason why vented my hood to help extract that hot IC air while increasing air flow

I thought there was a post about aero dynamics, and how vented hoods aren't good because right over the good is a area of high pressure

the 968rs came with the vented hood. Every other race car from the 60's till now vent their hoods for the radiators/coolers. Works for them works for me. You can tell the difference as well.

NZ951 did the same and posted some design templates for a trap.
