I am thinking about swapping my engine out of my 951 because it is wrecked and I do not have a title to it, into my 944na. I know you normally don't want to do that because of cost but since I already have both cars I thought it might be worth it to have a sleeper. but my 951 turbo has 180,000 miles on it so what all would you recommend going through the engine and replacing besides the timing belt and water Pump? I would rather have a 951, but for now I thought this might be a little fun. But is it worth it even though I already have both cars? Thanks for your help! Saxguy.

If you're willing to do all that work, I think you'd be better off reshelling your 951. The value of the NA will not really increase, so unless you plan to keep the NA for many years to come, I wouldn't do it.

I have seen it done and I don't see any negatives other than value. If I had both cars and planned to keep the na why not.
As for maintance, reseal the engine while it is out, do the clutch and all should be good.

How much is a new shell going to cost? Even if you go with a new 951 shell you should still plan to reseal the engine while it is out of the original car. It won't raise the value of your NA but it won't cost you any more than a reseal would. You will need to fix/upgrade/replace the same parts for a swap as you would for a re-shell.

Since you will have the engine out, I would replace the bearings and rings. I would take a close look at the valve guides, and it is a good time to do head work around the valves to make sure they are still sealing properly.
